LUX was a trim level offered to the 316i and 318i models. Used to highlight the cars as more luxuriously-equipped than the standard dealer cars, LUX is the four-cylinder version of the SE package offered to the 320i and 325i.

The LUX trim level was first offered in 1990, when the E30 was already seven years old. With the E36 due for European release at the end of the year, it was designed as a final-year trim option to get the most value out of the remaining E30 saloons. The standard equipment included colour coded bumpers, 14" BBS wheels, front foglights, 6 button OBC, 3 spoke steering wheel, rear head rests, and a different material for the upholstery.

The E30 saloon finished production in 1991, but the Convertible and Touring models continued until 1993 and 1994 respectively. The LUX trim level was therefore made available for their final years, featuring more equipment than the LUX saloons, with electric windows {and sunroof for the Touring) added as standard.

LUX-edition E30s are therefore more generously equipped than their standard equivalents. However, no major mechanical changes were made to the vehicles, and the engines and drivetrain are identical to the standard 316i and 318i.
