I have real problems trying to recruit mechanical designers! They have the qualifications, but no interest in or experience of actual engineering!

One of my best hires for mechanical design was a tool maker. Not the most qualified, but he just 'got' engineering!

mart, i think there's future engineer in my young son, only 7 but knows how things work/come apart/go back together, he loves anything to do with engineering, i'll encourage him to take it up as a job when he's older.
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

Get him in there if he enjoys it mate.
People like us will always be in demand , it`s a shame I have only a few years left before I retire as I could clean up in the future lol.
It`s a style of thinking that sets us apart.

me & his mum encourage it (lego, stuff like that), his school says that if the lesson involves taking something apart, seeing how it works then putting it back together & seeing how they could go about improving it (at age 7!!!) then he's at the front of the class & wont leave till they've finished.

Made a couple of castings last weekend. Left is the central manifold with the crank case breather. This went wrong somewhere, you can see daylight out of the wrong side:-( On the right is what appears to be a usable casting:-)

Needs a bit more of a skim, want to get them all to the same state then do one more pass so they're all the same length.

Got a few pieces of the CNC puzzle:
CAD is ProE Creo 6 (actual legit and fully licensed version! )
Toolpaths generated using AutoDesk Fusion 360 (hobby licence)
Motion controller is a DDCSV3.1 which is a Chinese standalone CNC controller and has some weaknesses.
Machine is some unbranded mill which I converted to CNC by fitting ball screws and closed loop stepper motors.

Injector holes nearly done, even found a 14mm cutter, which is convenient!

Drilled the holes for the trumpets, once the last injector holes are done there's just the spindle bores and oil breather left
