You could use a multimeter, or test lamp to verify the power connections in that terminal block, and add in-line fuses as required, then add the adaptor loom to it.

Testing the speakers is a case of briefly connecting a small 1.5V watch battery across the pair of wires (e.g., the pair of blue ones then the pair of yellow ones) and listening for the click as the speaker sounds - that will also identify which speaker is which.

rust doesn't get better with age, so yes, sooner rather than later is preferable.
are you ignoring my PM for some reason Jedd? :?

Need some advise lads, do i change the exhaust or keep it standard? i would like something that 'prettier' that sounds nicer but then again i don't want the car turning into a chav mobile..

Car is back :D for those interested it turns out the carb is missing something, acceleration idle piston or something? lad said the best thing to do is next time its giving me trouble i should replace it with a weber :)

Next on the cards is a nice set of creme leathers to match the doorcards!

That'll probably be a split diaphragm on the accelerator pump jet circuit.

I notice your post count is now 316! :)

Rev counter could be a bad earth to the gauge, or not getting the required input signal from the switched side of the ignition coil, so check those connections.

Thermostat not working - try removing it and dunking it in a Pyrex jug of boiling water. if it doesn't open, then you need a new one.

Check the sensor and the wiring to it on the back axle.

Anything, given the dousing of road spray it gets on a regular basis.

When you say thermostat, do you mean temp gauge? Just that if the speedo, rev counter and temp gauge are dead then it's a different issue. Just want to clarify as thermostat seems an odd coinsidense with a dead rev and mph dial

Yeah i meant temp gauge sorry, the rev counter hasn't worked for a while, the temp gauge worked in the morning yesterday, but not in the afternoon, exact same today.. and speedo stopped working today.. so basically all 3 have stopped :/

I was sorting out the wiring for a headunit if i could of blown something?

Tacho. and temp gauge will most likely be failed SI board batteries, and the speedo. could well be a blown fuse (10, 12 or 21) if you've been playing with the wiring.

Fuse box is right behind the nearside front suspension turret.

You can usually tell just by looking at them - blown ones often have tell-tale burnt bits! However, they can also be tested with a multimeter set to ohms or continuity range, or rig up a test lamp circuit using a bulb or LED in series with a battery of suitable voltage.

No, fuse 12 feeds the power to the speedo.

Out of curiosity, how easy is an engine swap in a 316 and how much on average would it cost me?

Zone Wiki is your friend:

http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... gine_Swaps

Cost very much dependent on which engine you go for and who you get to fit it, and how many other upgrades you need to make, e.g., brakes, suspension, etc.!
