Could you not see that the valves were iffy when you previously had the head off?

Spoke to him earlier and he's having coolant issues,
After its bled up, taken for a spin, The pipes are rock hard
and when he cracks the bleed screw there just a load of steam.

heat at the heaters, pipe at bottom of rad is hot [return] fan kicks in .
a/c type e36 rad with e36 twin speed fan with 88 deg fan switch.car was bled with the front end up in the air and fed through the top hose until it spewed out the top hose connection on the rad, connect top hose.
then my own little trick is to block the small hole on the rad just inside the filler cap with my finger so no air can be sucked in and squeeze the drivers side bottom hose until no air bubble appear keeping the fluid topped up.then i'll start the car,run it for a bit and check the top hose and if need be turn the engine off and release the air/pressure via the bleed valve and it then should be done and time for some pollution !
instead after a 10 min drive i have hard rad pipes and air from the bleed valve .
i'm turning into a drunken bum

you getting heat in the car via the matrix? did you bled it with the on heating on in the car? the tilt the car while bleeding is just rubbish its just a myth.
