Could I ask what welder did you get..

Gas or Gasless?

Make and Model if available?

Because I am planning on buying one to do the same this summer, Looking at the Clarke Gasless MIG 145,

Any help greatly appreciated as, being able to weld good eventually is a very good skill to have, looking good for a first time touching a welder LOL, but hey ho you will get better like you've said.

Its a clarke welder dude, i'll get you the spec later this evening,

Using 100% co2 gas but will switch to Argon/co2 mix when this bottle runs out 0.6mm wire and 0.9mm steal sheets

If i'd had more metal working tools perhaps i could have made a slightly better finish but i'm happy for now

Yeah that's expected anyway, look at it this way, you have no rust, regardless of appearance. Just wondering if bonnet skin could be used or wing skin as I have some laying around, because I will be doing those exact areas on both sides.

Don't worry take your time dude!

Heading over on saturday next and returning on the monday so evening and full day on the circuit with at least one evening meal at the pistonklause,

Defo up for going over in august hopefully that will have been enough time to sort the sport out for some light track work

What do you mean by 'admitting', is it a bad thing, metal too thin?

Clarke 120E Dude :)

Well, following the welding and other council activity visited on the moordoor turd today was set aside for sorting out the replacement wing which was rust free but had seen some sponge and fairy liquid action in its past;

So wet-sanding isn't everyone's cup of tea given how poorly it can turn out, as in 'i went through to the primer and am going to be poor having to pay for paint...'

But with a little practice,
Image

Now when Dan polished the car previously it was done with PF2500 which can be used as a bit of a 'one trick pony' good overall result and skips the heavy cut and refinement either side of it...

That being the case sections of the car have been redone with other bits still to do, anyway 50/50's are gay so,

Wax on,

...and wax off

So did you wet sand the wing then went over with pf2500? came out pretty decent, I sprayed my front wings first time and got some orange peel in certain areas need to correct to it look better.

Clay
Wetsand
Fast Gloss Heavy cut x2
Power finish Med cut
Final finish Light cut
Glaze and wax

I could have taken it a hell of a lot further but to be honest as most of the rest of the car needs going over again i was happy with that...

PF2500 by itself will not be man enough to get rid of wet-sanding marks unless you want to do 20 passes with it...
