Hi chris,

Yes - I ran the car very low on fuel to reduce overall weight. I did not think about the effect the small amount of fuel sloshing around in there would have.

I would like to get some slicks also in the future, so in theory with the new setup I can get and maintain much harder cornering without needing 1/2 a tank of fuel. Thats the plan anyway !

Never had a problem with the standard tank and pump, aftermarket pump fitted intank is a common problem as the pickup is different

I have same brake set up and the brake bias is way to much to the front, how do you find yours?
Putting bias valve in rear line will only reduce rear brake effect more???
let us know what your is like
I meant to ask what brake pads were you using ? You could run different front rear pad combinations to try and balance things out

Will
Another thought !!

Is there not an inline restrictor just after the master cyl on the line which goes to the rears ? What about removing that and fitting a bias valve instead if so

Back to the build...

The interior is now completely stripped and cleaned with white spirit, as is the boot.

I have removed the dash and un bolted the fusebox to allow access to the bulkhead/strut top area.

There was a fair bit more soundproofing behind the dash which obviously got removed.

I did find a nasty bit of rust just above where the loom passes throught the bulkhead though . oh well, nothing the welder wont fix I guess...

So I also weighed some of the bits which I removed out of interest. Weights are rough as I used some bathroom scales !

sport seat 23kgs ea
carpet 12kgs
sound deadening 10kgs
door cards, headlining and misc bits of plastic etc etc 15kgs
dash 8kgs
spare wheel, tools etc 15kgs
cd player, speakers, wires, aerial 5kgs

I make that roughly 100kgs gone so far and that is only the interior ! Dont forget I will be adding some weight back (cage, seats, harnesses, fire extinguisher kit.

But I will also continue to remove elsewhere - Bonnet, boot, gut the doors, lightweight windows, bumpers and supports etc...

On another note, my battery went flat !. No big deal right ?, well yes...

I jumped the car and drove it to the hose and left it running to charge while I gave it a scrub. Unfortunately it overheated severely (I dont think the fan cut in for some reason !? ). Anyway the engine has eaten its head gasket. Good job I have a spare but this made the "to do" list a lot bigger...

pics to follow...

Gutted on the cooked engine :( Interesting to see the weights.

Just remember if you haven't chucked out the centre console etc, (like I did!!! :o: ) they fetch a few quid in the for sale section 8)

Thanks , I will try to take lots of pictures but usually just want to crack on lol. I am a bit gutted about the engine but the gearbox was due to be changed and I have a spare engine with less than the 160k this one had one it so it's not the end of the world I suppose. It is also a good excuse to sort (clean and paint) the engine bay black.

The interior is now fully stripped and I have finished cleaning. This pic was taken before the cleaning with white spirit was completed.
Image

The removed dash etc...
Image

The boot area has been emptied and also cleaned with white spirit/a brush/a cloth.
Image

This shows the 10kgs of sound proofing removed. There was a load more in the hoover but I was not bothered about removing that to weigh it surprisingly !!!
Image

I have also weighed the rear seat (15kgs !?!), and the dash is next up to be weighed.

The car is going back onto the scales tomorrow to check progress.

I have bought a battery cut off switch and am relocating the battery to the boot using the 0 awg battery cable from an e46 tourer. I dont like the fact that the E30 325 one is black and could be confused with the negative/earth !.
Image

I bought some skateboard griptape to put in the drivers footwell as now they are slippery.
Image

The interior is going to be painted "Audi Nimbus Grey"

(https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&r ... 0QWDuISSBw).

The reasons being...

1. Black will make it too hot in the summer
2. If I decide to change the exterior colour it will still look ok
3. White is too hard to keep clean
4. It already has a good base colour meaning very little paint can be used (less weight !)

Thats it for today...

Hi mate, looks like a good job! Keep up the posting.

On another note, I would be interesting in knowing how much you get quoted for the grp dash. Is it worth a feeler in a group buy?

That is quite possible, Although it is looking expensive at the minute but the quality will be there.

There seems to be some good interest in these.

We have to pay for a mould to be produced from the standard dash which is not as easy as you may imagine due to its shape. I am currently awaiting a quote for this.

Then a professional must be paid to produce the dashboards from said mould, and then obviously there are material costs.

Next we have to pay sombody to flock them. But we shall see...

So stay tuned for more info... :-)

Uwe had his car painted the same colour inside. I had mines done in satin black, no problems with heat during the summer.

I guess great minds think alike !!

Satin black was next on my list but with;
black seats
black dash (flock)
black harness'es
light smoke window tint

I would be worried about being carjacked by Darth Vader...

Its not a restrictor, its a valve to stop the rears coming on with light braking.
The straight through one is for diagonally split systems.

Hmmm the one that came off my car was no valve, it was a restrictor, you could see right thought it, I just drilled a 4mm hole through the bronze part.

Ahh. hmm, I am pretty sure mine is the smaller of the two and I just assumed (I should really stop assuming !) that it was a restrictor for the rears...

Really nice car!

May i ask a quick question. Earlier you mentioned that when you converted to rear discs, you may have needed to change some valve. Is this the valve present on all e30s such as ones without ABS?

The grey and the red E30's were both M40 engined and drum braked rear ends. Neither had abs and of my cars (from memory) had the smaller part (not a valve bythe look of it).

Hope this helps. And I will double check when I get to work tomorrow

I have the windows, Bonnet and Boot to do which are the easy ones. And I expect that will be quite a lot of weight.

Then its time to gut the doors of their window mechs and central locking, and even the inner panel/door card.

Then the bumper mounts, and even the bumpers may get replaced for GRP too.

So yes there is still a lot of weight to remove. I want to be around 1000kgs and 300bhp ideally, thats the target.

Nope :(, not yet mate - the engine is coming out in a week or so tho  .

I am working on the red car at the minute. I do need to get this one up to Caged A.S.A.P ! I am itching to have the climbing frame installed ! I am leaning toward a more simple design though now (to save weight). I am also swapping the diff cover for an E36 item which they will fabricate a mount for at the same time hopefully. :D

Cool yes I will do mate , actually I have found somebody who sells a conversion kit comprising of the brackets (to weld to the car), a template, and a blasted/powdercoated e36 diff cover and all fixings ! - I will find the details and pm you .

On other news, I picked up some manifolds today to have a play with...

There is no way I am spending the huge amount it costs to obtain a BTB manifold. At the end of the day its a chopped up standard part !! I know they are of high quality and a good design but at the end of the day I have some VERY good motorsport engineers and fabricators which I can get to essentially copy the same design.

Watch this space..

And before you ask ! No !, I did not modify that manifold and am not going to use it like that ! They were cheap and that is how I bought them. In the worst case it is spare bits of pipe/flanges .
