When I jack mine up, I can open the doors no probs, one thing I know is that my cab shell is solid, very minimal rust, and thats surface rust.
And I'm sure that Kingcruizer is running Big BHP through his Cab.

it doesnt look too bad in the pics, but when it was fragged/smashed up rolled on roof etc the rot was unbelivable. i could put a screwdriver through various parts of the floor, it had rusty scuttle (on a pre faceliftRav335uk wrote:That must be fecked.Alex wrote:you should have seen when i jacked my old 84 rotten turd up you struggled to open the doors for the thing twisting lolbss325i wrote: Have you ever seen what happens when you jack a saloon shell up? All e30 shells flex, even the rot free ones as they are not a very riggid design.
Putting serious torque through a standard cabrio shell will flex it to the point of slowly opening up the seam sealer which will let moisture in which will cause rot.
That is just the begining of the problem as serious torque will twist the shell and start to throw alignment out.
Even a standard saloon shell with 400lbft+ will end up with stress fractures. A roll cage and seam welding will prevent this.

Common weak points are front strut turrets and diff mount
There are not many cars out there that do not flex, even my chromie flexes slightly when on the 2 post lift and that is 100% rust free

On Alpina E30's, the front turret seams were prone to cracking due to the stiffness of the suspension.DanThe wrote:Common weak points are front strut turrets and diff mount

A pair of 15 quid hot tuning strut braces will sort this out Imybss325i wrote:All e30 shells flex, even the rot free ones as they are not a very riggid design.

Dont muscle cars crack in the bulkhead/inner wing area because of the torque.
