Pull the boot trim out by the aerial and carefully examine the connectors, then when you spend your hard earned,do the same!
This way,you stand at least a sporting chance of this being a simple, plug in job.

If it's not going up/down properly and you can hear the motor running when you switch the car on (get a friend to help), I've used some penetrating fluid and given the aerial a helping hand to go up and down and that's solved the issue. If that doesn't work, remove the aerial and open it up (screws only) - have a look at the plastic winding mechanism inside and make it's properly wound when the aerial is down, they can be fixed with more grease on the loop with the plastic teeth.

Unless it's been stuck solid for years, most can be repaired in my experience.

Tbh for all that messing about you can get a black aerial from euro for £30 and a chrome one for around £20 is it really worth messing about?

Thanks for the info.
What happened was, I fitted a new radio, aand the aerial went up, but decided that was it and it never retracted again. I can hear the motor but nothing is happening. I may just replace it and try to repair my one to keep as a spare.
