Hi read a bit about this conversion and may try this next year I am going to start getting bits together this summer, not sure but does any one know if it is possible to retain air con(or is there not enough space )
if so should I be looking for a 325 with aircon and retain this or looking for a e34 535 with air con and switch this over. just want to make sure I get the right spec car,
Also looking at some of the engine pics, how do you get the dist cap off once installed as the space between this and rad seems tiny.
thanks

there is enough room for the AC pump as i forgot to take mine off and still got my engine in. i only took it off today to make up my mounts. the worst part will be trying to get your ac rad in somwere as theres barely enough space for your normal rad......i have seen a conversion done with AC though so it is possible.

you probably didnt aim that at me, but atm i'm not using a rad! any idea what one to go for? i was going to take the grinder to the front pannel to fit a standard e30 rad in and then strengthen what i cut out. although theres probably an easier way to do it....advice welcom!jaffro wrote:it is very tight. what rad are you useing? as for aircon ive got a cab so not much use really. but it can be done

yeah there is an easier way.
bash the buck head with a very large hammer and put the engine in position 3 (right back as far as you can) then use the e34 if you have it.
but the e28 is better as its thinner.
look for threads under my user name cause i had a long thread with loads on info on it. maybe not the best way to do things but its still all there with loads of pics.

Remind me how the engine positions are numbered someone? Mine went on the furthest back position that the .de mounts would allow, with no re-shaping of the bulkhead needed...
E28 M535i radiator is the way forward though - so much bigger than the E30 one (nice and thin though) & drops in like it was always meant to be there (mounting holes included).

ziggy position 3 is the furthest back- to the back of the car you can get 2.5 and 2 which all go closer to the front of the engine bay.
i think the original b35 was in poistion 1 or 2 as they used a special rad which fit inside the structure at the front.
