when i accelarate the speedo reads 0 mph, then when i take my foot off the accelarater the speedo gives the true reading, have i got a dodgy earth or is the speedo cable on its way out? :eek:

They don't have a cable they are elcetronic.
What you describe is a common problem.
The sensor for the speedo is attached to the diff and the wires going to it go brittle.
The best thing to do is to replace the wire (2 core) as far back as you can go which should be around 300mm.
Engine conversions, Auto to manual conversions, parts, servicing etc etc... For anything e30 call 07718 901737

Dude you can buy replacment conectors from Bmw with a good length of wire

Nothing to do with failing diffs. You can use a length of wire and plug from the headlamps of a scrap E30 if you're too tight to buy new.
