You can buy a 'Draper' tool or similar from eBay to switch them off.
There are 'other' ways to do it, but I wouldn't chance it.
Make sure you do service it!

Don't buy a reset tool. They are a RIP OFF.
all you need is a paper clip. (im serious)...look.

Yes.
twice, without a problem.
1 on early type (316)
1 on late type (318i)
You can buy a tool if you want, but it's a waste of money (IMO)
Simply short the two pins out, then switch the ignition on until the lights go out. (AFTER YOU SERVICED IT)

Just use a bit of wire with an in-line fuse (low value)

Make sure you guys get the right pins if using the fused wire method, get it wrong and it could be costly!
I wouldn't call the reset tool a rip-off though, I paid Ԛ£15 for mine about 5 years ago, and they're still available for that price, and I've lost count of the number of times I've used it, for my own, and others cars!

There is absolutely no need to buy a tool or use a fused wire.
Pin 7 sits pretty much on its own, and is difficult to confuse with any other pin. Just connect a piece of wire from pin 7 to the car body or engine (throttle cable bracket is handy), and turn the ignition on till the lights go out.
