Did BMW recall the 318iS when the profile gasket issues arose?
And if so, will there still be a record of which cars were fixed by that route?

I don't think that there was a recall.
If it happened under warranty, then obviously it would be done, but no recall.

The only recall ive seen for the E30 was the one for the expansion cap.

There was a recall for the iS but I could not tell you what the fault was. Only reason I know was I had a BMW dealer stamp in my service history specifically for a recall in a small booklet.
You could PM Gussy as he bought the car off me and he could look in the paperwork (if he is feeling nice) and tell you what it says!

There were actually 2 recalls for the iS. 1 for the expansion cap and the second for the heater plate located at the front of the throttle body.
As far as i am aware, the profile gaskets were not a recall. When i put my chassis number in from my iS on the viewdata computer at work, it tells me that both recalls have been carried out

The plot thickens. I'll have to see if I can persuade the local stealer to check mine.

I took a look at the recall info we have in our library, the only E30 related one I could find was this. As mentioned above it`s just the exapnsion cap one.
RECALL DATE (REFERENCE): 16/02/1998 (R1997068)
MODEL: Old Shape 3 Series (E30)
CONCERN: Overloading of coolant circuit.
DESCRIPTION: Overloading may occur in the coolant circuit which encompasses the engine, radiator and heat exchanger. Should the heater heat exchanger be affected, hot water and steam may suddenly escape into the vehicle interior. This could seriously impair visibility through the windscreen. Injuries to the feet and lower legs may also result.
ACTION: The affected vehicles are being recalled to BMW dealers for the fitment of a replacement radiator cap.
VINS: Various
BUILD DATES: 1982 to 1994
NUMBERS INVOLVED: 16100

You can check for outstanding recalls here:
http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/default.asp
And as for the rad cap recall, who's ever heard of the rad or heater matrix exploding before one of the rubber hoses?
Or was it just a ploy to get 12 years worth Beemers back into the dealerships?
