We hit a telegraph post sideways with the driver's door and it snapped, allowing us to roll over it.

I honestly think that the seat rail saved me from injury. It pushed through the tunnel (despite a spreader plate) and it lifted the seat in a helpful way.
I've always used sill/tunnel seat rails and from now on, I'll use foam filled fuel bag tanks with roll-over valves too!
