Hey Guys,
I'm interested to know how many k's or miles your e30's have done??
And whats the top milage of an e30 that you know of without a total engine reconditioning or replacement etc

Thanks

i think the average e30 mileage is going to be around 130-160000 miles after that it will be rebuilds i would of thought, but i could be wrong and there might be a 2 or 300000 mile workhorse out there somewhere :)
will be back in an E30 oneday soon !

My '327' has 305,000 Km on the clock and recently went through the French MOT with no problems. Although the engine was a rebuild from the block up about 30,000 miles ago.

There are plenty of cars on here that have done over 200k miles on the original engine. They regularly come up on eBay with that sort of mileage on too.
Bearing in mind that the newest E30 is now 14 years old, any with less than about 140k on should be considered low mileage.
A BMW with less than 100k on isn't even run-in!
..... And a lot of 325i's have only had the 'head off because it cracked. :(
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

My 92 K reg 325i has 104k. Original with almost full BMW s/h. I had a 88 325i a couple of years ago with 197k. Still went like stink but used a bit of oil.

Way, way out!! That sort of mileage is considered 'nicely run in' on a BMW!
Only thing I would expect to find out of spec. on the engine at that sort of mileage is slight wear on the exhaust valve guides.
Expect it to still be pulling strong at twice that mileage!
All assumes, decent servicing of course.

18 year old Nemo's done 175,000 miles so far. All original (except the radiator) and got full BMW or BMW specialist service history however I don't think the clutch is going to last much longer! I've done 21,000 miles in the 4 years I've had her and loved nearly every single one of them! :D

The highest mileage e30 I have driven was a d plate 325 with 270,000 miles on it it was also the fastest srtandard 325 i have ever driven although I know it had had a top end rebuild shortly before. Its lack of servicing or abuse that ruins these not mileage, I also had a 318 with over 200k on it although it was a bit noisy the 318 is seems to be the one that is most delicate of the standard cars from what I have seen.

Quite funny really as when I went to the concours show last June, I scored the highest points for my milage!
Odd really as I thought the more miles you had the less points were given. I was quite chuffed with that :D

171000 when the 320 died due to crank seal faliure, could have replaced the main bearings and seal and it would have gone on indefinatly, still got a lot of the engine as there was bugger all wrong with it, factory hone marks still in the bores and no wear on the cam, valves all looked good as well.

While I think of it, Theres a BMW dealer in Dublin where theres a 1988 (i think) E30 either 325 or 320 sport (Sorry i can't remember) with about 2500 miles on it. Used to be in his showroom, part of his private collection.

Thats between two and two and a half thousand. The last time I saw it was about 2-3 years ago and it was the same as it left the factory.

As far as I know, the low mileage 320i belonged to the man who owned the distribution rights for BMW in Ireland. He brought the brand to Ireland and still has a number of nice cars in his collection. For a while he had the only Z1 in Ireland, a 507 and an M1 from the seventies. Years ago you'd pass BMW Ireland HQ on the way into Dublin and some of the collection were in a showroom there. It was turned into a dealership a few years ago and there was an open day, kind of a pre-owned BMW event and some of the cars were on display. All time warp condition.

My 325i is my daily driver..currently has 174K miles...original engine throughout...headgasket changed as a precaution around 120K miles...Original, unrebuilt gearbox and diff...Clutch was changed about same time as headgasket

My M3 has 155K Km (<100K miles) currently undergoing a full engine rebuild and upgrade. Gearbox is originl and unrebuilt, as is diff...Clutch was changed around 120K km

Recently acquired a 320 Touring...That has an indicated 103K miles, but this is likely to be incorrect. I estimate it has done about 120K miles...No evidence of the engine ever having been touched. Likewise gearbox and diff look original and there are no receipts for any work. The diff on this car has a small weep from the o/s driveshaft seal so will probably be replaced by a 3.64, 3.76 or perhaps 3.91 unit when I find a good one.

I previously had an E34 530i with an M30 unit that had over 270K miles...That had never had the head off, at all and no major work on any of the drivetrain!
Also had an E28 525i (M20) with nearly 200K miles when the propshaft coupling died and the car was passed on to a friend who replaced offending bit and continued to use it for another 2 years...

The M40 maybe is prone to wearing out cams, but the M10 is a very very durable engine.

I wouldn't say any of the engines are particularly delicate at all.

I forgot to say.....
Mine's done 151k. I bought it 4 years ago with 107k on.
I had the cylinder head off at 130k due to broken manifold studs. Other than that, everything - including the bores - was fine but I did a top-end rebuild anyway.
This is why I no longer drive an E30......
