Car past its MOT today without any hassle so i've now had chance to have a good drive now!

The car feels completely different now, so much more responsive low down in the revs now, pick up below 3.5k is almost now as good as when its over 4k now. Engine braking is also a lot more pronounced now as well. I have found myself changing gear a little bit more than i used to but i think that'll iron out once i am used to it as i don't think you really lose that much more speed when going up hill which is one of the things most people said would be a downside to this.

I don't think there would be any issue with fitting this to a car that's used regularly in town, it is slightly easier to stall and the clutch has got a stronger bite, but that could be down to the fact it a bigger clutch or because it's a brand new clutch, or even because i haven't driven the car for 4 months and have got used to nasty modern cars with spongy clutches.

I would say that accelaration has improved quite a bit, but it's hard to say since i'm using a different engine with quite a bit higher mileage at the moment. On several occasions i have found myself thinking i am in a lower gear than i actually am due to the way the revs pick up.

All in all i'm very very happy with it

No more than the original price, Dermott was an absolute hero and helped me out big time even though it's left him out of pocket.

The car is completely transformed now its got a Z3 short shift and Z3 rack as well!

Diverting the thread a bit...

How hard was it to fit the Z3 rack? I think you and I are going down the same routes with our cars! I've already got the LSD, short shift (B&M in my case) and suspension sorted, you've got an ally flywheel and Z3 rack....between us we may have the best iS you can get :P

The rack is just as easy as changing a standard rack. All i would say is get some hoses made up before you do it. Everything you need to know is in the thread in the motorsport section. Had mine tracked up today and it matched a stardard rack which is good.

I just need the LSD now and to make my mind up as what route i take when i rebuild my other engine!

Tell me about it mate, only actually takes a day to do the whole swap

Not sure about the engine yet, going to see what everything is like when i take it all apart. All depends on cost really.

Just out of interest, what sort of centre plate does the clutch use? Is it a solid or a sprung type?

99% sure it was a sprung center plate mate.

M50 uses a dual mass flywheel which eliminates the need for a sprung clutch plate, your setup probably uses a clutch plate from an M20 singlemass which would be of the springy variety :)

I see, well i'm sure he said the flywheel was the one for the M50 but i guess that could use the M20 clutch setup. :?

I've just chased up about the clutch, it is an M20 clutch with an M50 cover.

Can you explain further?

You have a JBR M20 flywheel, an M20 clutch, and an M50 pressure plate? And what throwout bearing do you have? Very confused.

M50 flywheel, M20 clutch, M50 pressure plate. The bearing is an M42 one, exactly the same as an M50 one though.
