haven't posted for a while, as i had a problem with the engine,
as the engine was warming up, it was starting to run very rich, and was a b*st*rd to keep running, wouldn't tick-over on it's own. think i've sorted it now.
thank's to ian(332i sport) for helping me to obtain a wiring diagram from
the 'states'. something i've been unable to obtain from any dealers or 'speacialists' here.
Glenn how did u arrange ure prop again??? did u use an e30 back end and m5 front??? it may be worth doing the whole lot as an m5 section, after seeing what even my sport has done to the drivetrain.... if not.... may be worth knowcking up a few spares.... LOL
i used the m5 front and center sections and the e30 rear few inch's to join the m3 axle,
i inserted square section into the prop to keep it centralised then welded to two together,
it worked on the 330bhp escort i did.
i will get the rear section made at a prop speacialist once i've road tested the car and i'm happy with it

Do you think the E30 chassis can take 400hp? Never seen one with that amount of power!!
i think the chassis are plenty strong enough,it's down to the individual how much you develop the chassis. 8)

ps imola red, best colour for the e39 m5 IMO

it was switching map's in the ecu when it got to a specific temp,
also not enough input from all the sensors.
done the lambda sensors and exhaust gas temp sensor,
5 sensors all together!
finished the exhausts but am going to alter it slightly (to low as it goes under the gearbox crossmember),
wasn't paying enough attention as i was doing the exhausts as my head was thinking about the engine problem

I hope it proves to be useful 8)

i finished stripping down the loom this week, that's been nearly 4 weeks
cutting.
using all the bmw disc's i had here, and one ian sourced for me, i still couldn't identify every single plug, so thats why it took so long.
i will put some pics up later of the loom before and what i had cut out.
started to install the finished loom into the e30 today, theres not a lot of room behind the dash to squeeze it all in, so i think a fair bit of it will be in the glovebox!!
i am going to re-do the exausts again as i'm not happy with them, they're to low at the cat's (as they're side by side) so i will have to stagger them so i can get them higher in the tunnel.
any way, now that i've done the loom, i can get cracking again.

not sure what you mean, karan?
my downpipes are no probs, it's just after the gearbox, the cats are side by side, at the moment, so they are not up in the tunnel high enough, so i'll stagger them to get them higher.

the pics of the loom as promised,
first two are of the loom before i started

the next two are of the wire's that i cut off!!!

Hi Glenn,

I see that you are making good progress with the project, I think people forget that M5's are going on for 2 ton in weight, and judging by the amount of wire 'cut' from the loom, your transplant has certainly been on the slimfast.

On the matter of the Cats, just a thought, but as your E30 is pre Cat requirement, why are you bothering with them ?
So long as you can generate suffcient back pressure through the modified exhaust, I do not really see why you need the cats ?
So long as you fit the two exhaust sensors in at the bottom of the left and right banks, then with some remapping to the ECU, I'm sure some guys on the M5Board would help with that, you could remove the cats completely.

You could even leave the 'post' cat exhaust sensors in as a means of protecting the engine from to lean or to rich, the reason they were put there in the first place.

I'm no engine guru, but on the e34 M5 that I still have, the car is so much sweeter without cats. I have never run my E39 M5 without cats, but if racing one [ there too bloody heavy for that] the cats would be the first things to go, regs permitting.

I just think you would remove the space problems on the cats and gain some bhp in the process, not that you really need some though.

Still I hope it has given some food for thought.

All the best for your project,

Regards,

Gorilla.

that's definatly food for thought, gorilla
but i just assumed that the engine would n't run properly without them.
but as i have to re-do the exhaust's anyway, i think i'll try it without them and see how it run's

also, the cats make it too quiet, not that i want it too loud but,
it would sound better without!!

I dont know anything about the E39, but I would have thought it would run fine without the Cats, as along as you have the O2 sensors in place.

Maybe you could fit some smaller silencers in place of the Cats.

Glenn the only thing is that will it pass an MOT without the cats? Will the emissions not skyrocket??

Or is the MOT not a problem

I'm sure the MOT will be fine.

The car only needs to pass the regulations that were in force when the car was registered, not the current regulations.

My E36 Evo engine without CAT's is way cleaner than my old 2.7 M20 motor.

Are these the kind of clocks that have a redline that's red and yellow lights rather than printed?

And more lights go off as the engine warms up? 8)

yes they are the one's
orange lights start at 4500rpm, then they go out as the engine warms up,
but the last orange stay's lit all the time at 6500rpm, the redline lights up at 7000rpm!! 8)
