m50 engine mounts in e30 touring conversion

i'm currently fitting a m50 into my 325 touring. in other conversions i've seen the engine mounts are square but i'm only able to get round ones. does anyone know which to use (does it really matter?) and if so what the part number is?

I've never seen square engine mounts. Use the E28 M5 rubber mounts with the standard E36 metal mount arms and it'll all line up perfectly.

Don't you just want one of those though? The other side is a round mount and has a different part number

BMW UK do keep them. If you order it with a dealer tomorrow they should have them for friday.

I used two of those mounts Dameon, they just look more solid than the round type. Work well on mine anyway

Never heard of that before. You are right, they do look more substantial than the round plain rubber N/S mounts. Not sure without checking whether or not the dimensions are the same or not.

If it works then it works! I know all the S50 conversions are wearing the two different mounts (that I know of)

Im pretty certain they are the same height as the E34 round rubber mounts. Will check it out tomorow

Jai,

No, you have the correct ones. The green hex shaped one goes on the drivers side, and the round one goes on the passengers side. I believe the difference in design is because one is primarily operating in compression, and the other in extension.

Absolutely how I understand it. Under load the engine twists along the front/rear axis exerting twist on the mounts, one under compression the other under tension. The mounts are designed to do completely different things.

not really as there isnt as much of a force being applied by deceleration..

hi again i got the mounts on friday, got the engine and box fitted at weekend been building the exhaust system and finally got it running yesterday.
