The good: At last the filter is fitted. I took 'ye old Touring' on an 82 mile round trip and she ran very smoothly. I also noticed the temperature sat on quarter or just below for 95% of the journey, even when I opened her up!
The bad, and the ugly!:
1) Fitting was a bugger, although it was done within an hour. There were four bolts that connect the airflow meter to the air box, and these have to be removed with two â€Ëaspecial' nuts provided. It wouldn't happen. I found that by leaving the existing nuts the gasket and adapter fitted perfectly (more or less). However, I want to do it right, so if anyone can suggest how they removed those darn bolts, please do (I can provide a copy of the instructions if needs be).
2) The mounting bracket that connects to the second hole where the original air box originally fitted caused most problems. The bracket supplied has a curve for some reason, and didn't fit flush to the original position of the old air box. I managed to tighten some bolts to keep her on, as a temporary measure. Also, the whole airflow meter was slanting downwards quite a way, which surely can't be correct. A mate suggested I fashion an extension to fix to the bracket to hold the AFM higher and level which I did. It works, but I want it looking neater, so any ideas again would be useful. Photos of the install even better.
3) Finally, there's a pipe supplied and it looks like I have to also cut holes in the grill according to instructions. I found that positioning the original air intake pipe is neater with a better fit, so bent it into a way in which it will feed the filter.
4) I can't hear any noticeable noise change. When I rev it up hard, then got to rev her up again, there is a 'gulping of air noise', but not much else???

suggestions for that bracket problem (I think I have the wrong one, but I ordered this 3 months ago, it sat in the UK, as they wouldn't send to France, and I eventually got it this week! I noticed on top of the instructions it says 318i and mine's a 316i. It all works, it's just the bracket and I'm sure the 318i doesn't differ in the mounting bracket for the AFM, thus it's maybe the same kit for both cars. I'm sure you guys understand, I like everything looking neat and spot-on and don't like bodge jobs...lol
