IMHO the 2.8 is a bit too short - I ran it for 6months and it's really great for 5th,4th and 3rd gear chages but 1st and 2nd are too stiff and clunky. Obviously this was only tested on my gearbox so YMMV.
E46 M3 CSL but dreaming of another E30.

You would need to get under the car to unclip the linkage after that it is very easy the yellow clips are no longer needed at base of lever but I strongly recommend you change them at the gearbox end.mikeyboy wrote:is this hard to fit! ie, can it be done from inside the car??? i need to change the tiny yellow clips on my gearlinkage or would these parts override this?

This short shift conversion is a must do ..... it transforms the change. Of course you can do really fast changes with it if that's what you're into ..... but you can still do a nice normal change that will not damage anything ..... its just that you don't have to move the lever so far.
I did the change in about 30 minutes ..... One thing to note is that the plastic cup that houses the large ball on the gearlever (that you see from above sitting inside the gearbox housing) is not threaded, as I thought from the advice on this forum ....... it only needs to turn anticlockwise about a quarter of a turn and then the whole gearlever with the bush still on it will pull upwards and out of the housing (after having already disconnected the clips and rod underneath as advised).

this might also sound silly but what exactly is a quickshift conversion? is it as it sounds just a shorter length gearstick or is it a mechanical adjustment to the gearbox gubbins?michealewk wrote:this might sound silly but how do you know if the car hasnt got it already the reason i ask cause it has had everyother upgrade

It is as it sounds a shorter length gearstick creating a short throw between gears i.e the gearlever say moves 2 inch's between gearchanges compared to say 3-4 inch'sfuzzy wrote:this might also sound silly but what exactly is a quickshift conversion? is it as it sounds just a shorter length gearstick or is it a mechanical adjustment to the gearbox gubbins?michealewk wrote:this might sound silly but how do you know if the car hasnt got it already the reason i ask cause it has had everyother upgrade

I've heard the E36 M3 evo gearstick is a good one to use for this conversion. Anyone tried it?
EDIT 13/01/08 Fitted an E36 M3 non Evo gear lever to an E30 M3 which had a Z3 gear lever already fitted and it made the world of difference. Neutral in the right place and not too short a throw, just right
I think if you get a Z3 one its the 1.9 that you need. I understand the 2.8 one is way too short, but you would have to do a search to confirm.

Could someone who has done the conversion please help asreggid wrote:does the Z3 1.9 kit alter the position of the lever in neutral........more importantly does it move the lever abnormally to one side or forward or back or is it in the same position just shorter throws?
I am not sure tbh
