Is there a breather on the Sport gearbox?

The reason I ask is that I've replaced the output shaft oil seal, but it's still pushing some oil past it. Could it be because the breather is blocked, if there is one...?

Picking the Sport up tonight at last... that's the only outstanding problem with it mechanically now.

Never heard of a breather on the gearbox before. It's not overfilled with oil is it?

thers a lilttle poppet valve on the top of the gearbox to allow it to breath, problem is its so small and gets gunked up with all sorts of ming over time.

Giles TBH mate most gearbox leak a little out the output shaft seal, the wiper type seal employed will never offer 100% sealing, should mist from that area but certainly if shes chucking loads out thers a problem there M8

Just picked it up. She runs beautifully now. :D

Asked about the leak, he said that the flange itself is worn, and it's probably not sealing correctly against that, although I've just replaced the seal itself.

So the next move is to replace the flange... Not now though, just want to drive it for a while... probably do it when it goes back for it's braided brake hoses.

Ant...

This poppet valve... can you access it with the gearbox in situe, or is it a case of dropping the gearbox off...?

Just had it at the tyre place to have balancing and tracking sorted out, and then the leaky exhaust looked at. While it was up in the air and the engine idling, there were visible drips of fluid leaking from the output seal.

When I picked the car up last night, he said it was still leaking, and thought it was becasue the output flange was actually worn, therefore the oil seal wasn't seating tight enough. He said if I get a new flange, he could fit it with a new seal in about an hour, no problems.

Is it worth seeking out the breather (if accessible) and clearing this out too...?
