What is easy to remove/replace in an e30 interior?

I'm off to do a little drag thingy on sunday and want to lose as much weight as possible for the day. But being a lazy f*cker I dont want to do any hard work... just unclip clips and maybe undo the odd screw.

I need to put it all back in afterwards so nothing permanent please.

So far I have;

rear bench
boot carpet
spare wheel
all tools, jacks etc
side stow hole covers


How easy is the passenger seat to take out?
How easy is it to get all of the trim in the boot out, not just the doors to the side pods?
Are the door cards simple pop off jobs?

Seats and door cards are a piece of piss. Four 17mm? bolts on the seats. They weigh about 20kilos i guess, you can only remove one though

Rear seat backs are a doddle, but, by god, it's an acquired talent. You need to forces a sprung plate back on the outer fixing point with something like a screwdriver, then push the whole thing towards the centre of the car and pray for retention of blood.

Trim in the boot is just a few nuts and screws, but isn't very heavy, shouldn't bother.

I meant to add to the original post 'is it worth it?'

And no I dont mean is it worth running my heap up a strip.. I mean worth stripping the little things.

I've had the rear seats out a couple of times so thats no problem, wasn't as hard as you make out though and I didnt shed any blood

So...

rear bench
boot carpet
spare wheel

side stow hole covers (they're not actually attached, broken clips, so I may as well)
Passenger seat
door cards

Anything else will just be a waste of time?

Its called 'sunday street wars'.

The title kind of gives away its chavvy corsa ridden nature... but its cheap and I hope to embarrass a few kiddies in saxo's... or just humiliate myself by being beaten by said kiddies.

Up near taunton somewhere, Dakota raceway iirc. Its only an 1/8 mile strip but its £5 to get in and £20 for as many runs as I can fit in. I think its just a disused airstrip tbh but they claim to have proper timing gear etc.

Its the first time I've ever done such a thing so I figure its a good (cheap) entry point to see what the heap can do.

The stripping will be done in the privacy of my bedroom.

It does seem to be a bit more organised now though. iirc last year it was a bit 'me and me meeeht have got a bit of concrete to race on, wanna come?'

This year they have websites, club stands, show and shine etc etc... seems a lot more professional.

rossle, max.... I hope I wont be too embarrassed. There are a few fairly impressive (power wise) cars down here, but as they all have half a ton of fibreglass and flip[ paint on them the owners never use them in anger so hopefully there wont be too much competition.

I dont expect to win anything overall, but a good time and an individual victory or two will suffice.

There's always the burnout competition.

And even if I dont do well in that... I will be happy in the knowledge that I used a prized set of bbs to shred for my own personal gratification, and I will rejoice in posting up the resulting bbs horror movie for all the cloth cap brigade to see.

Pics and a review will follow. If its a success I think they plan on making it fairly regular so it would be good to get a few SW e30 folks along to future ones, to show the kids what a real car is.

I have dedicated a lot of time to baiting said chavs. I know this sounds like like an excuse, but it is the sole reason I still frequent (albeit not so frequently) a couple of karoooze sites.

On a more sensible note, run on 1/2 tank of fuel (less weight) remove your wipers, aerial and wing mirrors (less drag) and make sure your tyre pressures are correct...

I have heard that some of the Jap lot remove some engine oil (keep it 1/3 on dipstick) because this makes the engine rev better - but how much of this is BS I have no idea because I drive slowly and sensibly....

well... my fuel gauge doesnt work.

But I intend on filling up before I leave plym, I'll use about a 1/3 of a tank on the journey and more during the day so hopefully by the end I'll be putting in some good times.

Draining oil My car needs oil.. its old and tired.

Tyres will be at a regulation 30psi... I dont know if thats correct as I run honda civic size tyres... but it will do.

Will drag be such an issue on an 1/8 mile strip? I wouldnt have thought aerodynamics play much of a part in it until the higher speeds a full 1/4 would induce.

You never know - each little factor might not make a difference, but as a whole (less weight and more slippery shape) may all go together to make it faster....

Anyway - it'll save even more weight if the aerodynamics aren't a factor...
