Hello there

Got news yesterday that my head gasket is leaking oil  and that means the head will have to come off

So while the Head is off I was thinking about getting it ported and polished. Would it be worth porting and polishing the head? Is there any other mod I could do while the head is off?

Many Thanks People

cam is going to set you back a few hundred quid.

Polish the exhaust ports. This helps prevent carbon build up. Leave the inlets as it needs the little turbulence.

wat BHP would you get from new cams? seen a set for 340 alot of money to spend need to be gettin some BHP out of it :D

just got myself a new head there from a mate

he said its from a 525e but its the same head, is this right?

numbers on the head are "1 264 200" "2.7 ETA" if that helps

I think you'll find that head is not the right one, sorry
Try reading this article it should shead some light on it.

As far as tuning goes if you go for a cam there is no point unless the rest of the engine is in good nick/running quite well, so you need to make sure the whole fuel injection sys and igition is running well. If you do go for a cam you'll need new rockers and shafts too, and it would be worthwhile getting a chip and BBTB to take advantage of it, no point opening the valves more if the inlet side of things is just going to restrict the air flow :D

You'll probably want some sort of upgraded air filter too.

Nope it will be off a 525eta which is the M20 2.7 low compression engine which was produced for efficency because of the greenies in the '80's. Has he got the rest of the engine it came off?

I don't see any point using that head for anything, however he may think he has a 2.5 M20 because it came out of a car with 25 on the back. If the rest of the engine is a 2.7 M20 from an eta you could just pop a 2.5 or 2.0 (not really sure) head on it to make a high comp 2.7, just use your inlet, TB injectors etc and get a chip , you'd have a mor powerful puppy than the 2.5. Just an idea. Or if you can get the engine off him sell it on here to fund your new head.

2.7 has a v restricted head and mild cam..

it is nothin like the 325i head.. altho with some work you can fit a 325i cam in there. But dont bother - get a proper 2.5 head

i can get my hands on the 525e :D witch already has the 325i head and all on it but he says its not running right because the engine is still in the 525 with the 525 ECU so it dont rev out the way it should but with the 325 ECU it would run 100%

so would the 525 block fit into my 1989 325i sport then? would i need to change anything else for the engine to fit in my car?

the 525e is a automatic would my getreg gearbox from the 325 work/fit ok?

See this thread

If it has a 2.5 head it should have had domed pistons put in and had the block skimmed. If this is un likley then it may have a 2.0 ltr head on it in which cas it will still be more powerful if it also has 2.5 manifold injectors and afm and 2.5 cam. it should run fine if you pump the fuel pressure up to 3bar with a 3 bar reg and then get a zone 2.7 chip.
By the sounds of things you are lucky to have the makings of a 2.7 for free!
Oh you'll need a different fly wheel as the aut just uses a drive ring plate and torque converter.
