E30 are designed to run on 95RON fuel
The handbook of my 1986 320i says, for unleaded petrol, it requires "minimum octane number 98 (RM)". Is that the same as 98 RON? Have they lowered the RON rating from 98 to 95 for post facelift cars?

I also run an old Jag which is not converted to unleaded. I use Castrol's lead replacement additive which also contains an octane booster. Wonder if anybody else has tried that.

If it makes little difference to MPG or performance whether you use supermarket fuel or premium grade, then I guess we could all save ourselves Ԛ£100 a year minimum by filling up with the cheap n cheerful stuff! Now that must be good for a few beers (or a few litres of synthetic for the oil change) surely.

Cheers

Demlotcrew wrote:I really cant tell the difference between tesco and shell, i would never touch Esso, most of the stations are so run down that the rusty tanks the fuel is held in will do more damage than the so called 'dirty' petrol you get from tesco. Plus i use my card all the time and esso is full of dirty people who skim cards for a living, its the only way the station stays open. Tesco stations are always busy and the tanks are filled everyday with fresh 'dirt' so ill let you decide.

lol andy - won't those fuel tanks be just as run down as your (or anyone else's) tanks in their car? whether that be because the fuel tank in the car is run down or the petrol station tanks isn't so run down...?

Ok, lets just limit this forum to buying E30's, drifting them, blowing them up then breaking them for spares.
Or ask the same questions everyday too cos no one can be arsed to read the threads. Not saying its u, but loads off peeps do it.

Ages ago the mods used to say on topics like this "do a search this has been answered a 100 times thanks"
We got bored with doing that Si

In my M5 hand book it says "use 97 ron for enhanced performance"

I tried 98 over 95 and cant feel a thing!

Infact, can someone tell me who is the cheapest place so I can go and fill up my 5 million litre tank.

Interesting that - EVO did a test a few years back - they used a camera to look at the engines internals (CTR, Jag XKR and A.N.Other) before and after 1000 miles of Optimax, and the after results were pretty impressive.

They also measured acceleration runs, and there was a very slight improvement.
318iS became MR2 Turbo became FTO GPX Mivec became Impreza became Rover 620Ti became Honda S2000 (current) became Fiesta 1.25 and 200SX Drift Slag (when the Honda has gone)
