The noise must be able to get through the turbine to an extent giving the idle noise (this is why I reckon having two turbines in series will eliminate the need for silencersAnother question :
Does the exhaust note come trough the wastege or the turbine wheel at load
Certainly you hear the exhaust noise ramp up as the wastegates open on boost.
Think I'll go with a full 3" from the turbo back with a straight through silencer and run the WG outlet in 2" pipe through the same silencer at the rear of the car.
Should make it near enough silent at idle and then loud on boost

Running a screamer isn't at all a issue, either legal wise or noise wise. Have it pocking out under the drivers side arch, save running the pipe all the way to the back.
The screamer does pop, fart and throw flames out but that only happens at full boost so you have the exhaust booming already, although you can still hear the screamer and damn is it cool
P.s. just windscreen and emmisions need before I'm legal again! BRING IT ON!!

Hooray, £139 for 1m of 1 1/2" pipe, 1m of 2 1/2" pipe and 10No. tight radius 1 1/2" 90degree bends all in S/S grade 304.
Going to steal the T25 flange (which neatly fits the HX27) from the Mi16 and replace that when we need it.

It does indeed, it's got a bloody hard spring in it too!
Not that I need the internal gate though as the divertor valve does the boost regulation duties for the HX27 so I was just gonna bolt it shut

Ooh is it brown-new? Could be tempted, how do I find out what housing mine's got dude? Holset seem to have a bewildering array of possibilities!
I take it that if I undo the V-Band that holds the turbine housing on it'll just pull off over the wheel will it? I've not really taken either turbo apart yet, except the cold side of the H1C, to be amazed at the size of the compressor wheel

I'm hoping to start the manifold this weekend as I need a break from working on other people's stuff, so should I put my EGT probe in the mani or in the down-pipe?

As I said on the tech you want the highest reading,
wich is on the least cooled part of the engine, the #6 cyl.

Well, I've FINALLY made a start on the fabrication!
Will post some piccies at the weekend when I can borrow a camera but I've spent the whole day just working for myself on the car and have made the log part of the manifold.
I set my mind to doing as good a job as I could and making the joints as tight as possible unlike the last manis I made where I ended up plugging holes with masses of weld or having to plate over some of them #-o
I can really appreciate the work John Volk must put into his manifolds now as it's literally taken me 13hours of solid work to fab and tack together a simple log which doesn't even have any exits yet!
Unfortunately gotta finish off a project for someone else before I can make any more progress, but it's a good start

Will pop it down by cyl 6 I guess

Cheers dude, yeah it took an age to get the fit right! Thought it was worth the effort this time round rather than just plating over the massive holes my poor joints left like last time.
It's quite satisfying getting the gaps relatively neat and even, makes it easier to weld up too

One thing: I think that you shoud weld some flaps between turbos (I understand that second turbo flange will be over this one) because the gases from 1,2 and 3 cylinder can blow against gases from 4,5 and 6 cylinder and loosing the energy. I hope you understand what I mean.

Jan, you're absolutely right, the plan is to see exactly where the larger turbo's outlet from the manifold needs to be and then weld in turning vanes to guide the gasses a bit better towards their respective turbos with the bias being towards the larger one

The only problem which can became is that in different conditions (rpm, load) you will need different ratio of gasses volume to each turbo. It looks like I need to wait when more can be seen. I don't know where exactly you are going to fit the flap. Because if it will be just before turbo flange when it will be closed the vanes still will be reflecting the gases into its direction. So you don't know what kind of turbulences it will generate. I'm just affraid that it can reduce the overall manifold flow and efficient of turbos.Turbo-Brown wrote:all flow to the large turbo is blocked at low load to the gas has no option but to spool the small turbo. The valve will be situated on the other side of the large collector in a split housing so that I can try to profile the butterfly as much as possible.
When fully open, the valve will locate on the turning vanes so that it just forms part of the internal flow paths of the manifold so with luck the efficiency shouldn't be compromised. This location will also enable the butterfly to disperse heat into the structure of the manifold so that it doesn't cook too quickly.
