You're correct. ///M badges were a dealer option on 325 Sports. I recently had a conversation with the parts manager at Dick Lovett. As for the ///M grill badges being fitted to non ///M cars and the arguments that this produces. All the ///M cars have a one piece grill badge with the model number after it ///M3 for example. Therefore if the ///M badge on my tech 1's grill isn't meant for it, then what is it for??
///M badges are fine on sports, but look stupid on anything else.

you think that looks bad? you should have seen mine when i bought it,bet the fella who crashed it had tears in his eyes and possibly a few golf tees in the back of his head,the car was full of em
