as far as ive been told m badges and 325 i badges were all "extras" in those days and would have been fitted at the dealers to order..... i love them, they say "this car is special" and you now they are winkeye

You're correct. ///M badges were a dealer option on 325 Sports. I recently had a conversation with the parts manager at Dick Lovett. He advised that BMW will sell you an ///M badge for an E30, but you need to provide them with a sport chassis number.

As for the ///M grill badges being fitted to non ///M cars and the arguments that this produces. All the ///M cars have a one piece grill badge with the model number after it ///M3 for example. Therefore if the ///M badge on my tech 1's grill isn't meant for it, then what is it for??

///M badges are fine on sports, but look stupid on anything else.
