There is probably another way...but....

If you take off the panel underneath the steering wheel, the ecu is just under there and will have a label/stamped into it Motronic/Jetronic

You can also take a look at the distributors - If you've got an old fashioned one you'll have Jetronic.

The new one is on the end of the cam, (motronic) the old one is down on the block.

What car is it? M20? Series 1, Series 2, Year? Might be able to tell what it's supposed to have.

jetronic has a dizzy. motronic doesnt, it just runs the rotor off the end of the cam.

jetronic has a dizzy on the crank case, on the left hand side of the engine.
