M30 Engine Mounts

hey, im considering making the mounts myself,due to cost.all i need is blueprints with lengths and angles widths etc.I know this is a long shot, but can anyone help me?Cheers Alex

I put the engine in with the metal plates on the block and then made a carboard template and then cut the box section the right size using the templates. I then tack welded it altogether and then removed the mounts from the engine to be fully welded.
The mounts cost me £15.

vertical positioning is dictated by clearance between sump and steering rack (need a good few mm)

left to right position by crank centreline

left to right tilt - i just guessed it, the back face of the inlet manifold should be about vertical

front-rear tilt is fixed, because the box bolts up on the e30 crossmember as usual so once you have the sump-rack clearance set you're there

idont get how u worked crank certreline out?Also without the engine being bolted in,is it possable to connect the box to set the front-rear tilt?Im so sorry for these daft questions!Cheers Alex

Bought my mounts from company called spoox components they put the engine in position 2.5 (no bulkhead modifications and u can use standard e30 m3 propshaft )

cost me 117.50 plus p+p

cheers stuart,just checked out their website.have you completed your conversion?if so did you actually use the m3 prop - i cant find any!i take it they bolt on to an open standard e30 diff,or do they only connect to a lsd/or m3 diff?Also im taking it that you use the m30 and m30 box?Cheers once again Alex

havent completed yet but thay have completed two now and tell me it all fits

think the prop ends are all the same but someone on here will be able to give u a definate answer on that and i am using e34 m30 with 5 speed manual box

Drop the engine in with gearbox, bolt the rear gearbox mount up, put the prop on so you can see how much slide there is left , put a bit of 10mm ply under the sump of the engine. You can move the engine over abit to give you more clearance between the steering and the exhaust maifold but you will have to fit a smaller servo, a golf gti mk1 works well with no mods. Then make the mounts.

I didn't use the golf servo, still got the E30 one in.. does this mean I'm going to have problems?? I've got about 5mm of gap.

Wiring's all done now, all coolant pipe work done, diff fitted just got to get three bolts for gearbox end of prop.. it's fabricating the downpipe to exhaust system that's holding me back as I'm teaching myself to weld
then that'll be it.

I've had a lot of other commitments recently so haven't had as much time as I'd have liked to tinker with the project so I've moved over to working nights now so I can have 4 day weekends

Alex I recently bought an E34 535 throttle cable from a guy on ebay, his user name (on ebay) was custom-conversions and he was breaking a complete 535.. he had an engine available. Unfortunatly I don't have his phone number but you could try contacting him through ebay.

I will keep a look out for a suitable engine for you
