i've been keeping an eye out for a manual TPS and plug to replace my auto one. the only reason being the auto one has a much larger connector and this hits the bonnet (while the sump just touches the steering rack!!!)

while in the garage earlier i found a manual M20 one which 'looks' like it will fit and i even cut the connector from the loom :D

apart from the mechanical fitting (which seems the same from the outside), is there any difference between manual M20 and M30 TPS's? eg, do they have the same fuctions at the same angles?

also, is it just 'idle mode' and 'normal mode'? or dies it do 'wide open throttle' like pug ones? i can only hear the idle 'click' on both.

M30 TPS can be found on some E30 316i/318i M10's, have a look at the ETK :thumb:

does your ETK give the bosch part numbers? the online one doesn't...

i have: 0 280 120 321 for a manual M20 and 0 280 120 406 for the auto m30

the online one is sooooo slooooow so search though! it's a pain that i have the program for my computer but it won't run :evil:

M30 units operate in the opposite direction iirc ?

The auto units from all switchable cars have both a proper TPS and the idle/wot switches inside

FYI, the WOT is not a "click" just check the electrical operation both ways and all should be well.

haha! that's an obvious point i hadn't thought of!! :D

i must get some croc-clips for my multimeter as the probes are a pain for this sort of thing as i don't have enough hands!

Don't know if it helps mate but the manual TPS on my E28 M30 535 has the bosch part no 0 280 120 302 and according to the ETK is used on E24/E28/E34/E32 and the E30's that Andy mentioned.

The BMW number is 13 631 273 265.
