Any of you guys removed the heater matrix and replaced it with a smaller lighter item? If so which one?

My friend just changed his VR6 one for a Polo version and saved himself a good few KG's in the process.

Before anyone asks i'm not getting rid of it 100% as window clearing and a little heat is important to me.

Jesus, heater matrix weight? It can't weigh more than a kilo?!

This is getting serious.

The whole heater box weights a fair bit miore than that Dave. I'm thinking of pulling it out on my track car, but can see misty windows being quite inconvenient.

Yeah but we're talking about replacing just the matrix itself for a smaller unit. Doing any with the whole system is a different matter.

Then yeah, go for it and deal with no heaters! Then it's worth it!

Dont mini's have little ones ?
Also some kit cars use universal ones which are quite compact.
I think you can get small electric ones also just for demisting the screen so no need for the heater matrix.

I think i read some where a chap had two E36 rear cabby heater fans fitted to his E30 track car, they were fairly light if i remember ?

The other way is to get a heated screen like Dave says. Have a look at Taffy's web page as i think he does them ?

alternatively go to the bog and have a good dump before going out and track- that should save you at least 2 kg !!! 8O
i still have the original heater in my stipped track car - i use it loads in the winter as its bloody cold out on track fo the first hour or so !!!
