:D .. not long ago, i bought g57lye's old turbo from him, it had a bigger hotside than my old one.. i finally got round to fitting it and having new downpipe made and gues what???? The thing fly's now, its been worked out that im running 10.5psi and its rapid, so quick that im spinning my wheels in 3rd gear, (in the wet) theres no dry weather in UK... Anyway, im sure it needs mapping to iron things out (Get ready Ant).. and back onto the rollers she goes, im pretty confident im gonna hit the 250bhp mark and torque will also jump from 230lbs .... ive got a few pics if someone can put them up for me pls.. :D

Excellent dude :thumb:

bigger hotside gives less torque, more horsepower  and far less chance of backpressure related det too.

Given a good 1/2 day mapping session I'm sure we can get plently more HP outa her.

I've been eyeing my bonnet up for one for ages but I'll have to remove some of the bonnet supports to get it where it needs to be, just worried it'll loose it's strength if I do :(

Still, might be worth a go anyway, can always weld it back up again :D

Erel, is that G57yle's bonnet then? If so you got that sprayed damn quick!

Mark.

Awesome turn of events,

How is the boost charecter now?
You´ve had what 3 diffrent turbo setups, why not list the diffrences you´ve noted .
With great challenges comes great engineering.

Well 2 set up really, first 1 doesnt count as 2.7 engine blew,, ... 2nd attempt was standard engine with small garrett t3 turbo, .43 compressor housing and same size zaust housing, it spooled up well quick and had loadsa torque... now trying this slightly bigger turbo with .63 zaust housing and 60 trim blade.... seems to be working a treat at 10.5psi...

I was more talking about
diffrence in lag?
diffrence in max boost rpm´s
and so on,
With great challenges comes great engineering.

Coming along nicely.

Not so sure about the airfilter though! No offense but that is horrible and looks way too small.

The bonnet vent looks very nicely done.

no offence taken Sal... :D ... as you can see though, very tight where it is anyway so cant go no bigger mate...

Gunni, in regards to boost... im smacking full boost (10.5psi) at 3.5k rpm, she feels awesome... old turbo was at full boost (7psi) at 3k rpm...

Im well chuffed !!! :D

I'm not talking about the size of it.....more the horrid design. Do yourself a favour and throw it away. Infact no, give it to me so I can have the satisfaction of smashing it into little pieces.

Stick an ITG on it, I'll give you one at cost just so that I can have that filter to smash up.

doesnt bigger hotside mean more lag? i was advised to go for a smaller .48 housing on my new turbo to make it more useable with the boost coming in at 1400 rpm.i like the look of the bonnet vent as well but would advise using an angled plate under the vent so rain water will run away from the turbo to avoid messing it up with rust and endless worrying stops at the side of the road to see if the steam coming out from the vent is just from the rain hiting the turbo or something more worrying winkeye

thats the thing though dude, the 2-5 has loads of N/A torque so the small hotside means you get loads more( too much ) and the top end is restriced by low gassflow through the small housing, mine was a small hotside, Uber road car, V12 grunty but top end was stifled and it was frustrating after a while.

Fullboost after peak toque is the method of choice, especially with a stock Comp ratio, big hotside is defo the way to go, small hot would be ace on a B20 though :D
