rev counter???

help when car not running rev counter is normal at o
soon as you start her up needle goes to 2500 and regardlaess of revs wont move
any ideas lads???? Daz

Hmm, this is a different one.
IIRC, all the electronics for the rev counter are on the SI board, so I suppose first thing would be to try a different one of these.

The SI (service interval?) board is the one that remains in the front part of the cluster when you open it up. The one that has the service interval lights on it, and the rechargeable batteries that regularly fail.

I'm pretty sure that all the SI boards are interchangeable between all models.

If the SI board makes no difference then yes try swapping the tachometer.

If it wasn't getting the RPM signal from the ECU, I would expect it to sit at zero, so I wouldn't think that's it.
Try changing the coding plug on the front of the cluster (one for a different engine would read wrong, but would prove the point), or see if you can aquire a complete fresh cluster to try.
