Cars you've given up for an E30?
Moderator: martauto
I got rid of a VW Corrado g60, it had a chip and pully kit on it so went really well! Faster than the 325, but fancied ago with rwd, then found the bmw. Not quiet got the hang of drifting it yet, need more pratice and a lsd. Still have ago though, even if i do end up facing where i just came from sometime's

I sold my Mazda RX7 twin turbo to do my 335i conversion which I thought I'd invented until I found this site after I'd started doing it!
Fantastic car but an average of 12mpg on super-unleaded put a downer on it!

if i had a garage to keep it in i would be very tempted, some nice rs turbos on there too!
Tough one, selling that for the bmw, i love the RX7, what a car! Drove one a couple of year's ago, very nice.DRIFTBOY wrote:I sold my Mazda RX7 twin turbo to do my 335i conversion which I thought I'd invented until I found this site after I'd started doing it!![]()

My first car was a e30 323i and i gave that up for a mk 1 astra sr
Couldnt afford to run the 323 and it went down hill from there

Yeah, I miss it badly!GingerTim wrote: Tough one, selling that for the bmw, i love the RX7, what a car! Drove one a couple of year's ago, very nice.
Was great to drive and very quick! I'd have another one if I could afford to run it.

I do like those, not so keen on the new version. Cant believe how bad that was on fuelDRIFTBOY wrote:I sold my Mazda RX7 twin turbo to do my 335i conversion which I thought I'd invented until I found this site after I'd started doing it!![]()

I'm not so keen on the RX8 either.oguz327 wrote: I do like those, not so keen on the new version. Cant believe how bad that was on fuel
And I had a few tanks of fuel average less than 10mpg!
That's a £70 fill-up to do about 170 miles!
And I never even got it on a track - too scared of bending it!
BMW straight six engine sounds better though, so it's not all bad!
My 335i is getting 18-20 mpg around town and 27mpg on a long run too!

I'm sure! The bmw can't be that good on fuel though can it?[/quote]GingerTim wrote:Yeah, I miss it badly!![]()

You should see about 20mpg round town in a 325 i would say!

driftboy, saw your bm in practical performance car.
wondered if it was a zone member. V nice.

That was part of my thinking behind the change too.GingerTim wrote:That's what i like about my bmw, it's not the best on the zone by far, but it's all mine, was cheap so if i bend it, it don't matter as much.
I want to drive on track eventually and if I bend the E30 I can go to a scrappy or worst case re-shell it for the price of an RX7 wing and bonnet!
Also, I did the conversion all myself so I kind of have a lot more pride in this car, knowing that I put it all together and made it what it is and how I wanted it to be (within my budget of course!).

The pictures are small enough that you can't see the rust patches!

Cars always look better in pictures.
You should take your motor to a trackday, do one at an airfield and you have nothing to hit.

At least you can get it back on the road quiet cheap. Even if it's not to your spec. Better that than it sat on the drive whilst you save to fix it!DRIFTBOY wrote:I want to drive on track eventually and if I bend the E30 I can go to a scrappy or worst case re-shell it for the price of an RX7 wing and bonnet!

E30s seem to be cheep as chips for every day parts but expensive to tune and Jap stuff the other way aroundGingerTim wrote:At least you can get it back on the road quiet cheap. Brands Hatch is only 20 or so miles from me and I've driven there a few times before so that might be it's maiden track voyage!oldroydsr4 wrote:Cars always look better in pictures.![]()

I know Castle Combe and Goodwood quite well too so I haven't got any excuses not to track it, apart from having no money!
And Santa Pod soon, hopefully!

Tell me about it! Their's alway's something else to buy for the house or someone's birthday or something. Most inconsiderate when trying to mod the car!oguz327 wrote:E30s seem to be cheep as chips for every day parts but expensive to tune and Jap stuff the other way around

I've only driven the Indy circuit but I'd love to have a go at the full GP circuit.oldroydsr4 wrote:Brands GP is the best circuit in the uk
I must remember to do a search on the interwebbynet to find somewhere to go and start drifting properly as well, always mean to but never do!
Sorry!

About 100 miles from home, I like to get up there a few times a year.oldroydsr4 wrote:Brands GP is the best circuit in the uk

And yes, there is always something stopping me buying the next set of mods!

www.driftacademy.co.uk been meaning book myself in to have ago but not enough money. Might do it cheap if we do a group booking?
They do it all for useless n*b's (me) to taking people to comp level.

Nice one - thanks for the link!GingerTim wrote:www.driftacademy.co.uk been meaning book myself in to have ago but not enough money. Might do it cheap if we do a group booking? They do it all for useless n*b's (me) to taking people to comp level.
I'm probably rubbish at it too (despite my misleading screen name!) - all the drifting I've done is driving like a hooligan on the road when there's nobody around and empty car parks and stuff. Love to have a proper go in a wide open space, preferably with experts / instructors on hand to guide me.

Yes me to, would love to be able to do a duke's of hazard around my local round about.
Not quet managed it yet! Every time i go out for some fun their alway's seem to be other car's about in my way
It would be awsome to do it properley! Ive already had to go to the scrap yard to get another lower splitter.

I've had a few interesting moments over the years too. My 335i is happy to wheelspin, purely on the throttle, at about 65mph in third gear in the wet sometimes!

Nice! keep's you awake then! Before the corrado i had a rover 420 turbo( don't laugh, 200bhp 4 £750 Bargin) that would hit 65-70 in 2nd on the limiter, if wet and you pulled out of a juction up a hill and give it abit in 2nd it would just spin up to limiter no prob's. The car was prob only doing 30-40 mph though. Mind you that's in a straight line, i can imagin your's being quiet entertaining when leaving a corner not thinking!

I worked at a Rover dealer for nearly 8 years and I know what the 2litre turbos can be like!GingerTim wrote:Nice! keep's you awake then! And yes, mine can get a bit lively if I'm not careful. But I like it that way!
