Dont do what i did and end up with a messed up shell :?

if your not sure what your looking at, its the part thats the rear of the diff bolts on to.

Whoops, looks like the spot welds have fatigued ( ok, the steel around them.... )

I have a guilty secret, I seam welded and braced this area on my car within days of buying, I thought it was overkill @ the time but maybe a worthwhile investment.

Lots of torque or lots of heavy launches, or a combination of both would have caused that, Turbo iirc ??

What were the specs on the engine that did that? :)

Isn't there a rear cover that fits the diff that has twin mounts?

That looks like the work of a 318IS with the M42 naughty lump or maybe a 320 with the M20 2.0 torquemeister ! :)

Good thing it wasn't a 316 then, would have ripped the whole back end off... :D

now thats kinda impressive, to shear a x member like that must have taken some serious force :cool:

Can that not be re-aligned and welded back into place?
Engine conversions, Auto to manual conversions, parts, servicing etc etc... For anything e30 call 07718 901737

Im not sure, i was going to make a custom one but if there are any out there please let me know, i didnt get round to making it stronger but now i need to! :mad:

i have designed the setup for 800hp, but i still have to remapp ect... but im not sure if it will drive in a straight line at that power as im haviing difficaulty at the moment and the rear tyres are currently 265's. the only limiter in the system is the size of the turbo, but i chose this one as its a daily driver = less lag and id rather have a drivable street car rather than saying ive got 1000hp but cant drive to the corner shop :roll:

It would be a real shame if it wasnt repairable... Must be some way of doing it surely?
Though putting power like that through it, the repair would have to be pretty damned good too... :eek:

i hate giving hp levels without first knowing but my previous engine was a 325i, 2.7 eta conversion, low comp pistons ect... and that was throwing out well over 300hp @wheels @12psi. i put it on a mobile rolling road that only held 300hp and it went over the scale :P

Belive it or not gordon, i think its easier to re shell the car, as i wanted to do a roll cage and some other bits so now i can do that and reinforce everything while tidying up the whole conversion and then put it all together nicely. i just have to fine a decent shell to work with. i Have a couple of people in mind with nice cars i might use.

I was first looking @ a brand new shell but bmw dont stock them any more :(

I've just done an M30 conversion mate. Not as interesting as yours but kept me busy for a few days :) Cossies are more my line but have had it with them having been there and done it so to speak.
My last post was meant to be about your power output and not about anything i am currently dreaming up :D

Wow, that's dedication then. To just throw away a nice looking bodyshell like that. Nice looking paint job too. Obviously most things will just swap over, but still a lot of work involved. Would love to see the finished article... :cool:

Thought it was, now the other question, is it the single turbo version or the later twin turbo version(converted to single turbo)?

If its the earlier one, Beemerlad is going to wet himself in excitement, as you'll be able to help him when he finally gets round to doing his one, thats been in the pipeline :o Lee :wink:

Ive done so many bmw builds that it feels easy now. its all a case of bolting the bits together now. The hardest part was sorcing the parts and all the fabrication to make the bits to fit toger. now its plain sailing, ans the car was going to go for a full respray anyway

Surely if you are competent enough to perform an engine swap like that ,a bit of fabrication/welding shouldn't be an issue ?. I know someone who could sort that no problem ,he is based in the watford area.

Sorry to dissapoint but its the later twin turbo version converted to a single turbo from a 1995 model with a 6 speed manual box fitted.

I was thinking of re-shelling the car before this happened actually. and this has given me the reason to do it :wink:
