Well i finally got round to fitting the exhaust to my 335 touring today so it sounds a little less like a Spitfire at the end of the runway
I fitted a standard Boysen 325 system to the M30 down-pipes just for now and it was surprisingly easy

Its nice a quiet and stealthy which is just how i wanted it as well

No badges no bodykits just a standard looking Sterling Silver tourer wearing 15" BBS's and that about it
Just need to fit the electric fans tomorrow and its m.o.t time

Take a look at a twin pipe system on any 325i mate and it will look similar
I'll get some pics of the car tomorrow when it is for once on all 4 wheels and may get its 1st wash for 6 months

in the long run, keeping your eyes peeled for a M3 one would be worth it as it's the same bore as the original M30 system whereas the 325i one is a bit smaller.

Size isn't everything mate
I don't want a big exhaust but i may get one made for it that is a bit more free-flowing but not lairy or cheesy if you know what i mean.
First hurdle for me is keeping it long enough to warrant the expense as i'm already getting the 'urge' to get the engine stand out again

my scorpion M3 exhaust gives the game away somewhat (you've heard it!!!) but i reckon a OE bmw one would be a load quieter. i was looking for whatever M3 spec one i could find and this was what came up but i would have rather used a genuine one for the sleeper effect.
what's the plan with the engine stand? ford again or something more special?

The Fords are no longer with me mate hadn't you noticed?
Probably the same again although should a 4.4 V8 lump or M5 (e34) come my way i'd be up for the challenge

Actually thinking about it I'm sure I have one of those little gas bottles knocking about in the garage so we're sorted

Don't bother than mate unless you have gas as i would be better off super glueing it without

Just need to weld-up a couple of bits of the exhaust where the sleeved bits are as its better than clamping.

Very nice, but your cone air filter is going to be sucking in alot of hot air by the look of it!

looking good
it may be worth trying the E34 airbox. my E32 one fits a treat and with some trimming of the headlight cover thingy, the inlet pokes out behind the lights getting some nice cold air. may be a bit quieter too

nice ali pipe though... cossie leftover?

Gareth if running a standard airbox as opposed to my little k+n makes any significant difference to this 'out of the box' lazy old 3.5 litre straight six i'll eat my hat

If it were a finely tuned 10k revving race engine where every single fraction of a horsepower was needed then it may make a little difference but i suspect just using one brand of fuel over another or me putting on 6lbs over christmas will make more
The air filter currently on there and the ally pipe were pillaged from an E34 m30 i had recently and is on there now as it was easier to fit so i could take the car for a run although i do have a standard air box should i decided to fit it.
Another option i am still chewing over is a bloody great big hole in the bonnet with the cone in its 'summer position' poking through said hole or just leaving the bonnet off completely as i suspect this may help intake temps

the bonnets can easily be tipped up at the rear for cooling underbonnet temps down
re the intake temp issue, i reckon it makes more difference on a rolling road as the heat really builds up. on the road i suspect the difference is a lot smaller. i'm just a fussy shit with things like this

Been there and done the argument over cones for years mate with the Cossie massive

The jury is still out on those and the effects but as i said before for this application i really can't see it making any difference

it does look nice too
with turbos the difference is noticable (experience being a mk1 uno turbo). cold air and good fuel makes a bigger difference in this case.
i've not noticed my car running any better on high octane fuel as the compression on a late M30 is so low! i just use the cheap stuff (even up the pod strip!)

I actually told fugazzi33 earlier when he was at my place that i wouldn't be long before someone commented on my filter
I'm more interested in sorting the washer bottle and a headlight bulb right now mate as they are needed. I'll have a see if i like the airbox in there if not that cone will be going anyway as i have one about 3 times that size in the shed and plenty of ducting to give it a chill
