My heater matrix is leaking. I can't really afford to take it to a garage just before christmas and may have a go at replacing it myself. I've sourced a cheap working 2nd hand one from Emrays in Norfolk. How difficult/fiddly is it to do and any hints or tips?

Thanks

its quite fidley but before it gets that far check its not the o ring seals on the control unit on the top that are not leaking they run down the matrix and give the impression that the matrix is leaking when in fact it is the seals

you get a build up of pink or blue coloured dry powdery gunk around the seals (dependant on the colour of your anti freeze)and water leaks if you change the matrix the only way it will come out is by moving the servo/master cylinder bolts all the glove box bits and the 2 pipes are a pig (hard to get at the nuts) do a search on heater matrix there are some good pics to show you danthe posted some good pics a couple of weeks ago

also i recall brianmoore saying the later heater matrix do not corrode or leak its 99% the seals

It was using water but couldn't work out where from so I took it to a garage who had a look and said that the matrix had a slight leak.

Thanks for the replys. Will check seals

So if it is the seals, are these just as difficult to get at?
