Heater issues

My heater fan seems to have given up the ghost on position 1, runs intermittently (cycling) on position 2 and occasionally stops on position 3. Position 4 is fine.

Anyone have any pointers on what the problem is?

Motor has partially seized. The plain bush bearings need a drop or two of oil every fifteen years or so.
Motor is behind the removable bulkhead panel at the rear of the engine compartment, and to do the job properly, the motor/fan assembly has to be removed, bearings oiled, powered up out of the car, oiled again etc., etc., until it runs free
