HID Conversion Kit A few questions

Looking to get a HID kit, as my lighting is a bit poor!

Have seen a few fitted to cars on here, i know demlot does it, but i was looking at some kits on the dreaded ebay,
The ones from there, are they reliable, and easy to fit!

Has anyone got any experience on fitting them how easy is it! etc etc

i got one from ebay its a uk seller very very easy to fit.i got the 8000k kit which is crystal blue light or you can get the 6000k more of a white light.as im blind and cant see very well at nite these kits are excellent.if you require any more info on the kit or fitting pm me more then happy to help.

You loose the half beam when you fit HID's. No great loss though.

What do you mean by Half Beam?

Surely not diped?

Without the key in if you pull the light switch out one click it turns your side lights on (5 watt bulb) but if you start the engine it also turns on the low beam lights (55 watt) at half power. Its only when you pull the switch to position 2 that the main beam comes on at 55 watts.
So if you fit a hid kit as they will only work at a set voltage (i.e. full power) you loose the half beam, so its either on or off.
I nearly bought a set at santa pod but when the guy started scratching his head when i mentioned it i decided to leave it until i was sure.

This was only fitted to early post facelift cars.
Can easily be disabled by pulling apart two round rubber two pin plugs and sockets at the front of the LH inner wing.
The resistors for the set up are mounted just beside the LH headlamps on the wing, and many will have long since expired.

didnt really like the half beam as ive got bright led side lights and then u had this yellow half beam on to.changed my lights to the smillies much beta now.recommend it all.it turns heads day and nite go 4 the 8000k kit!!!

My 318i touring (which is an early touring 1989) does the half dip beam thing and so does my late 1991 325i Sport.

I dont think I would be bothered about not having it if I fitted HID's.

I've about ten facelift E30s here, and only the two with '88 production date have any of the dim dip circuitry. All of the later ones do not have the resistors, the relays, or any of the associated wiring (which is part of the main body loom).

my 89 320i dips when the key is removed, I thought this was designed to save your battery in case the headlights were left on.

I have dim dip on the 89 320i,but not on the 93 316i Touring.Seem to remember it was a legal requirment for a while in the 80s,the idea was that pedestrians could tell that a car showing dim dip was moving.In the days of dynamo electrics we used to run on sidelights in town to`save the battery`anyone else old enough to remember?

Do the bulbs fit straight in to the lamps with no modifications? May get a set of these as theyre plenty cheap

Here are some pictures, sorry for the bad quality that's mobile phones for you. I'll post some pictures of the box and connections tomorrow.The bulbs are the same as halagon lamps so no modification required.

nope nothing from the police as they look like what you get on new cars,went through 2 mots i think its when you get the very blue ones 10000k(colour temp)upwards.

very easy to fit just 2 wires you need to connect positive negative.Hid 8000k arnt that blue like the halagon bulbs which the 7500k are very blue as ive had the piaa plasma spark blue bulbs.
