Hi, my electric windows have ceased working i have checked the fuse and according to the handbook it also powers the sunroof but that is working fine, I have no power to the switches as they don't light up like the s/roof does, I suspect a relay or something similar. Does any have an idea and where it's located. thanks Phil

If it's all wired as it left the factory, the sunroof works, and the window switches don't light, then the problem is most likely to be with the window overload cut out (in front of the RH window switch). Not unknown for one of the spade connectors to just fall off this one.

Hey, sorry to hijack your thread but i hate starting a new one with only a little question.
Should my windows work with the ignition off and the doors open? They used to but dont any more and i really miss the feature.

Yes they should. Mine only do it with the passenger door tho, it looks like the drivers door switch has died. Have you checked yours?thedingbat wrote:Hey, sorry to hijack your thread but i hate starting a new one with only a little question.

What if they light up, but dont move? i think i can hear the motor or something clicking when you push the button, but nothingBrianmoooore wrote:If it's all wired as it left the factory, the sunroof works, and the window switches don't light, then the problem is most likely to be with the window overload cut out (in front of the RH window switch). Can't work out who's asking what now!
Anyway, relay (back of glovebox) is an ordinary five terminal (change over) relay. Nothing special about it.
Windows not working when doors open is either the door switches in need of a service, or fuse 28 blown.
Switches lit up but windows not working is usually the switches in need of dismantling, cleaning, lubricating and re assembling. Supplies to the window motors pass through the infamous door pillar plug and sockets, so these are a possibility, but these particular connectors are not usually affected since they are not always live.
The window motors themselves, assuming they are factory fit and not the hopeless dealer fit ones, are usually 100% reliable.

Strange thing about this is that both don't work. Did they fail at different times?

Hi, I checked from what brian said about the spade connector in front of the right elec window switch, but mine has been altered from the original to accomadate the alarm (scorpion 737 fitted from new ,label says manufactured 1986!) so I think the problem is linked into this somehow. going to ask a mechanic friend to have a look, thanks Phil
