Always best to get springs and shocks that have been designed to be paired up, buying kits is always the safer option for this.
Quite a few on here have said the cup kit is really good but has a specific drop (i think 60/40 and 40/40 are your options).
Personally I didnt want to go that far so I opted for Bilstein shocks and H&R springs to get 35mm all round.
very happy with mine but it is quite firm and I think the cup kit is a little (but not much) softer.
When you ask better than m-tech I guess you mean what you got now vs this, well if it original then they'll be quite knackered anyway so Yes, the Kit will be better but replacing new for old can still make a massive difference to the car.

As a new iS owner, i'll keep my eye on this!
TBH I'm still getting used to the grip of the mtech setup

Just fitted 60/40 H&R cup kit to my iS. So far so good but need to do rear top mounts but all seems very nice a tight over bumps. I'll let you know how it goes when ive done them mounts........

who ever said dodgy things about the cup kit would be on crack its one of the best mods ive done to my m tech 1 325i sport its simply awsome when set up with the right car with good bushes , uprated other bits etc my car handles like no other 325i ive driven or owned so id say it was a good setup im on the 60-40 mm drop all round with the full cup kit.
over the moon.

Hartge h35 e30... ( for sale in near future )

Fitted e46 cab top mounts now, and can totally recomend the cup kit. Ride is nice and firm, well controlled without slammin over bumps and potholes etc. well worth the dollar!!

The ride height on a vehicle is worked out to the relative geometry of the suspension components. Therefore standard ride height is on a well designed car the most optimal height for handling. Lowering your car moves the centre of gravity changing the geometry. Therefore to keep the best handling u want standard ride height and perhaps harder shocks. to get a lowered apearance go for a bodykit.
These are what the suspension specialist for V8 Supercar Holden Racing Team told me when i asked him about lowering my car. I have M-tech springs which are in brand new condition and bilstein B6's and the handling is extremely good.

Interesting. Lowering the centre of gravity will certainly help the handling in some ways, I would have thought. What geometry issues would there be with lowering a car? Does it affect the steering or something? Which are the B6s? I'm now completely confused about the different Bilstein shocks

I have yet to see an Mtec setup car come close to one with a H&R Cup Kit.WerkdE30 wrote:The ride height on a vehicle is worked out to the relative geometry of the suspension components. The guys you spoke to may well be speaking in general terms.
