A couple of weeks ago my touring failed the MoT big time on front shocks, stabilizer bar links, rear springs and basically all the bake pipes. I think everything was original and obviously built to last exactly 16 years! Anyway got a local garage to do the work and got them to fit new springs at the front too. Cost me a small fortune in the end - probably more than the car's worth :o:

Problem is that since I had the work done there's been a knocking noise from the front, especially when I turn right. So took it back to the garage and they've checked it over and re-torqed everything but the knocking is still there  Garage reckon it could be things settling down.... Seems to feel a bit more substantial than that.

Could they be right or is there anything else it could be?

Damper top nuts tight ?

anti-roll bar bracket come adrift from the front subframe ?

Those are the two favorites, after the wheel being loose

things do settle down, but there should be no knocking noises at all IMHO.

Cheers Ant.

The first thing the garage looked at was the damper top nuts, then put it up on the lifter and checked underneath. They checked the wheel nuts too. I'll have a look again myself when its stopped raining.

The saga continues - still got the knocking from the front. Its been back to garage twice and they seem a bit clueless to be honest. Its been getting worse too but the garage asure me its safe.

So I've taken it in again today and they are going to take it all apart and put it together again. They muttered something about the springs not sitting correctly. I know they also had touble getting the collars out of the struts, so mabe they've damaged somthing there.

I'm sitting here dreading the call that its going to cost me more money.... :x

If they've damaged it then I don't think it should cost you any more money, amazes me about garages that don't know what the problem is but they assure the customer that the car is safe, HOW THE HELL DO THEY KNOW since they admit to not knowing what the problem actually is.

Good luck Mate, hope it's sorted soon.

To be honest I don't expect to be paying anything again but you just never know... :? Its just a pain not having the car so I have to keep taking days 'working from home'

The guy who runs the garage seems to know what he's on about but he just sits office or cruises around the M25 in his recovery truck, leaving the 14-year old grease monkeys to do the work

I'm hoping he'll take a look himself today. The oil service light has just come on too, so I'm hoping they'll do an oil change as a 'good will' gesture.

Just got the car back - apparently one of the link bolts needed tightening. It seems a bit better but I need to give it a good drive tomorrow. Why they couldn't find the loose bolt on my previous 2 visits is beyond me....

They didn't do the oil change either :(
