Anyone know how difficult it is to convert a manual sunroof to electric operation? :stupid:
Thinking of taking the elect one out of my touring & putting it in the 320.

Fairly easy. Remove the whole motor assembly including the guide tubes, leaving the flexible cables behind.
Use the handle or motor to wind them in and out, or just remove the handle mech and motor.
Wiring loom is a single wire which runs up the LH screen pillar from the accessories socket at the back of the glovebox.

Iain, there have been some good posts on this, a quick search will find them, this one has quite a bit of info..

http://www.e30zone.co.uk/modules.php?na ... conversion

I've done it on my M3, and had a total nightmare at it, found the motor mounting holes didn't quite line up with the mouting plate from the manual roof, but got there in the end!

Thats why you should change the whole mech and not just half of it!

Yeah, would have been easier, but at the time I did my conversion, the advice was to fit the motor to the manual mounting plate!

:thumb: Cheers for that Simon.

Transferred all the info from that link on to a Word document & I'll start trawling through the rest when the Zone comes back on line in a couple of days.

Got to concentrate on the M50 for now or I'll never get it finished in time for Santa Pod.
Shame there are none of the regular volunteers close by to give me a hand

The first reply in that thread is by me. I'm older and wiser now, and wouldn't do it like I said in that thread any more.
Since then I've done a couple more, and definitely recommend changing the whole plate complete with guide tubes.

Mine is still fooked, need to pull my finger out of my arse and get this sorted, it's just proving to be a pain in the arse as my roof seems like it's jammed

Got the same problem Pal, hence the reason to change.
I'll get a better idea of what goes where when I start to frag the Touring, but it probably won't happen until after Santa Pod.
