Your right in the 'un-predictable' part but that's what build's up your skill!m-dtech wrote:Drifting is crap and un-predictable with the open diff !

Having an LSD straight away does not build up skill as it make's it easy!
I learn't to drift with a 1.8 and open diff, now i've progressed to 2.5 with LSD. I need the LSD now for the high speed drifting as the open diff cannot hold a drift in a straight line
Don't run before you can work!
thats cool - i learnt to drift in a 520i with an open diff... hard as hell to hold a drift with an open diff but when it went it went so quick I got used to catching it which bodes well for me now I have an M535i!

the diff on a 535i is the same size as one on a 325i just a different rear cover and output shafts.jonmsm wrote:ajack and axel stands did it for me on the 535i... and thats a BIG case LSD!
I could never get down the drifting with a open diff i lost my frist e30 trying a black 91 325is (oh how i miss that car). of course the 911 bumping me from behind didn't help none.

Replacing the rear diff is really easy. The rear end really doesnt have to be that high. If you want it to, just put some wood blocks under your jack stands. not 100% safe but itll work...
Use some lock tight when you put the axel bolts back in too, ive thrown a few in my time. I say learn with the open as long as you can before you go to the LSD, it makes all the difference.
