Ok after a attempt at a tube mani with pipe way to thick, it got 1/2 done was so heavy and twisty i gave up becuase I couldnt be bothered with effort to get more suitable pipe and start again (doin this in back garden btw) and thought i just order PPF one, but PPF one will take a long time (months) to come, if they make me one atall , and i thought well BMWSOB is making near 400 hp and 11 sec 1/4 with a log so I decide ill knock one up and try it and if im not happy with it and I think its holding me back ill beg PPF to make me one.

Will get both surfaces skimed as its warped abit and caught with grinder a small bit, found place with furnace aswell to stress relive it first so I dont get it skimmed put it on and warps again when it heats up.
Only worry is wastegate is very close but its even closer on TCD mani and i found out the diaphram/spring in tial wastegte take 900F so it should be ok. divided flnage is ported to edge on inside rather then porting turbine housing. Gona see how this works, wont spool so well as proper manifold but I dont really care about that.

Hey, that looks pretty tidy!

Can't see you'll have any problems with spooling with that :)

Head flanges look familiar too! Seems they're turning up all over the world! A guy in Australia's using them now and I've sent loads of people in the states the drawings too!

no idea, asked a friend for some space and its what I got, he sais it is tho.

yeah pleased with mani will be nice to see what its like wont be bothered if it sucks it didnt cost much and ill sell it, but im just waiting to see what its like and get everything else setup and if i dont like it then ill change either turbo to small or manifold to 6-1. its lighter then the stock cast log aswell which is nice, the 6-1 i tried weight a tonne before i even finished it.

Very nice work Will !

logs kick arse, they solve more issues than they create IMHO

good effort, that looks cool Will.

mine looks utterly shite and the internals aren't exactly smooth, but it spins up at 2k in higher gears and always makes full boost by 3k, which is fine by me :D

back garden, lol. i made mine on the gravel driveway

Looking good Will, atleast you'll have plenty of space left for the downpipe!

Looks good, is the disadvantage of logs to do with unequal distance from ports to the turbo?

It's not too big of an issue to worry about it at our level of modding, anything less than 300bhp or so should be fine on a log.

All these fancy equal length manifolds only really come into their own over a certain amount of flow. And having driven Ants car a few times I certainly couldn't feel a difference to my 7 branch....

Well apart from the space issue.....

its 2 things really, more equal runners are better for same reason people fit 6 branch manifold to NA engines but its also about the pulses, the 6-1 manifolds perserve the pulses better and help spool the turbo abit earlier which is why you have divided entry on holset turbos aswell. Also a 6-1 will flow alot better then if you used an adapter on stock manifold as pipes on stock manifold are quite resiticted, this log will be alot better then using adapter and should flow as much a a 6-1 becuase the way ive used bigger pipes as it gets nearer the collector there is as much or more crosssection area of pipe as you would have in a 6-1

no if you look at manifold there is a vband flange on there right in collector for 44mm tial wastegate, my turbo is a HX40 19cm3 64/74 turbine and 55mm compressor inducer, its probly gona be to big so ill sell it and buy a HX35 but that will be after ive tried it properly with electronic boost control to make sure wastegate stays shut, its a 15 psi spring so ill leave bottom open and feed top of wastgate with boost pressure to keep it shut till about 20 psi only way id change it is if I get lag between 3-4-5 redline gear change

I measured mine to be :

Cold side: 50mm & 82mm

Hot side: 67mm & 63mm

Exhaust housing is 18cm3

And I know someone else on here has wheels bigger than mine

For reference 18cm3 housing gives full boost on my setup @ 4k but you do see boost from 3k

I'm on a T3 flange :D which saved some hassle too.

I measured the compressor wheel at the inlet, so across the most forward part of the wheel and then the back of the wheel, 50 at the inlet which increases to 82mm at the back.

The hot end is reversed so bigger size is the inner or back of the wheel and the front or last part of the blades for the other.

Then you can work out the trim:

trim (50/80)^2 = 0.39 = 39 trim

Using the above, my compressor inducer is 50mm and the exducer is 82mm.
