Looks like the mutant off-spring of a steering rack and a master cylinder attached to an exhaust bracket.

Is there a part number on it?

I really don't know! It was in the back of my car when I bought it along with an ECU and headlamp and few other bits and bobs.

I'll get the part number off it when I get home and let you nkow what it is. It's definately BMW I know that much - have a vague memory of someone saying it was off a 5 series.

Mysterious.

Does the car it came from have an inlet manifold with multiple hoses coming from it or a single hose?

That my friends, is an early cold-start "air slide" valve.

I had one on my E21 323i, presume early E30s must have had them.

Part in the top right, number 10. More or less the same; certainly the same function.

If it was in the boot, it's probably bust anyway.

And what's this about Alpina snobbery, the only reason I know is that I changed one on my rust-bucket of an E21 323i?

yer al jus jelus.
