Brake advice for M3

Everyone will hate me for this but i use Zimmmerman drilled discs with std pads and braided lines and motul racing fluid, 3 open pit lane days already and they are fine, i will be changing pads to pagid fast road's soon. Brand is ok as M3 top speed there is >120mph so it's not hard on brakes at all.m3ben05 wrote:Hi guys,

Standard discs / calipers should be ok if you use decent fluid and pads, I would use Mintex 1166 and Mintex black if you're looking for something decent at an ok price or Mintex F4R and Castrol SRF if you want something better, failing that it's a brake change to AP for the ultimate

everything I have read says that standard disks are the best you can get. I have just changed my rear disks for standard ones and even with ATE pads from eurocarparts it feels like I have thrown an anchor out the window. I have zimmerman cross drilled disks and pagid fast road ont the front but i will soon swap them to be the same as the rears.
Standard discs are an ancient design and there are loads better discs out there for tracking your car if you are having to change anyway

AP's are bloody expensive at around £1200 + VAT but like I said they are the best, end of. Wilwood's I have to say are incredible value for money, £400 for the kit and they worked well enough for us to break 4 lap records and win 8 races last season, wouldn't bother with standard when Wilwood's are so good for a few pence more

Would the wilwoods fit the 325 and were do I get them from for the best price?
I've got that on the back of my 325, but only as it's what i had spare at the time. I've heard far too many horror stories about drilled disks to risk them on the front. Wilwood or AP's that what i'd use on a 325, wilwood's are £400 AP's are £1200 AP's are better (you get what you pay for) but unless you're racing you won't see the difference

on my track car i've run ebc green, pagid fast road, delphi standard and now mintex 1166 race, never tried the ferrods, the mintex 1166 are my recomendation by miles followed (along way behind) by the ebc greens, the delphi actually out performed the pagid fast road, i've run catrol srf but would recommend ap 600 fluid its less than half the price of the castrol and on a par with it to be honest the mintex 1166 with the ap fluid lets me lock the wheels and don't fade for more than 10 laps so that's all the brakes I need, the guys at questmead are the guys to talk to but are really race focused rather than street

The guy that looks after my car did a back to back test when he was at arrows F1 with SRF and AP and the drivers preferred the AP.

Yes, but the Brembo kits he is referring to are road kits not race/rally products and NOT in the same league as AP, personally i'd fit Wilwood and be done with itYaninnya wrote:Brembo is top quality too. the brake fluid iwill use on the M3 is castrol srf , i belive its dot 4 and its never boiled on me when i used it in my tech1 sport, but it is expensive stuff!!

Forget about the dot number, Mintex Black or Castrol SRF are racing fluids, you won't have any hassle with either of these, both are superb quality and will do anything thrown at it
