Golf servo M50 conversion length of spacer?

Hi just finished my M50 conversion, but having a small issue with my brakes at the moment, what length did people make the spacer for the master when using the golf servo?

trial and error mate.

needs to be just long enough to take out slack, but without pre-loading the master cylinder when you push it against the servo

get something easy to cut like a pencil, cut a section off and try it. keep shortening it until the master cylinder will just fit flush with the servo without the piston moving.

that make sense?

er, edit, then when you have the right length re-make the spacer from an old bolt that fits snug in the hole in the master cylinder. don't use the bit of pencil lol

If you use the mk1 golf servo it fits on without the need for the spacer.

I thought it was the Mk1 GTI that just bolts on ?

its a case of finding a mk1 being broken nowadays tho

a mk1 non gti one would be good for me..

Sorry yes mk1 gti golf just bolts on. I think the non gti ones are smaller but should still bolt on??

Yeah the Mk1 Gti servo fits without the spacer, but it does need the linkage at the back to be drilled out to accept the E30 linkage pin.

The Mk1 non-Gti servo will fit, but its to small for the E30 - the brakes on the Mk1 1.3 Golf were bad enough. Its not something Id want to use on an M50 converted E30

As has been mentioned, finding a Mk1 Gti servo isnt going to be easy now. I think they can still be bought new, but wont be cheap.

ive driven without the servo disconnected and could still lock the brakes, a small servo isnt really an issue for me

well im hoping with the Z3 rears and E36 front brakes i should be able to stop

Did feel pretty damn good going round the block. Maybe thats cause they were already half on

The brakes will be fine, they must work without the servo, but it all depends on hard you want to press on the brake pedal.

With the smaller servo, you will need to press harder.

I thought with a smaller servo you have more vacuum, therefore you would need to press the pedel less "Hard"

I went round the block with my "Small" servo and the brakes felt the same

I bought a Golf GTi Mk I off German Ebay, but ended up using a E30 iX tandem servo instead when one turned up.

Would like to sell it as I have no use for it.

However I am in Malaysia. Please PM me if keen and I can find out postage costs to ship the thing to Blighty.

Shortened my spacer and all seems well at the moment, altho i might have shortened it a little to much now as theres more play in the peddle before i stop Will get there soon, thanks for the advice guys.

i really don't understand why the oem servo can't fit with the m50?

Servo is still on the left side of the car.

I guess if the engine was tilted away from the servo enough it would fit, but Im still not sure how it would all fit

OKK, second guess its a 325ix that he put the M50 in!

I fiteed a Mk 1 Golf GTi servo to my E30 today.

It does fit without modifying the spacer to the cylinder.

But , I did find that when I swapped my end on to the shaft, it was to short!

the GTi Servo seems to have a slightly shorter shaft!
I got round this by using the E34 end as they are extra long and you can cut the m down to fit.
