I just had the guy from the garage on the phone reckons my powersteering pump is nackered, how do i tell this?

I know they never really worked that well plus mines got low profile tyres on it so it doesnt help. Ive had it in an independant BMW specialist before and he's driven it and never said anything what do you guys reckon?

It is really stiff to turn when stationary and i have to really tugg on the steering wheel i was wondering what others think before i go down and see him tomorrow?

Daz that is what i thought i cannot hear any noises from it, i thought it was stiff cause of the tyres like i said and the lower suspension it was way worse when i had it 60/60 drop.

I will have to see what he says tomorrow when i get there!

mine was same recently

turned out everything was fooked

but that was making a racket

if yours isnt i would try flushing the fluid and putting some new in before forking out for rack etc

also check the tierods are in gd condition they could be getting stiff if they have dried up on the joints etc or have any splits

this is all things i was told to check when mine was playing up

prob will feel stiffer than standard with the drop etc but shouldnt be much difference not as much as you have anyway

good luck

tierods are the bars that link to the rack and to the wheel hub assembly
1 adjustable bar each side for tracking etc

they have a balljoint in them
check the rubber boots arent split as this could cause them to stiffen up if grit dirt gets into them

Daz -> Apparently when i got it back to the garage the pump was nackered and when they took it off they saw why. Some dopey idiot has put normal oil instead of ATF oil what an idiot.

Subsequently the rack is dead tooo so thats another new one of those.

The amount of money i have spent on my car since august last year is not worth thinking about i tell you!! Mind you it will be worth it in the end.
