On most of the bikes i have built you remove the trumpet for better airflow as it is only there to dull the intake sound.Just wonder if the same would work for the airbox on the E30 easy to change back as it just clips in.

IIRC it's been tried and tested by someone on here, and it showed power loss!

thats was me
the trumpet presents the flow to the AFM in a smooth and turbulence free fashion, thats the main reason cone kits loose torque on the e30s
Try it dude, interested to hear other opinions on this, maybe it was just my car ?

I tried this when I had a K&N cone. I went back to standard airbox set-up.
I found the engine idled a lot better and ran better with the standard set up.

my experience is only with m30 2.8 and 3.5 engines, but i've always had good results using cone filters. i've not dyno'd any of my bmws but always though they felt quicker with a cone on instead of the airbox. i also though that the k&n replacement panel filter i bought for my 528i made zero difference and i sold it!
a friend bought an expensive cone setup for his integra type R and made an airbox and feed for it, and this surprised a dyno operator with the gain it made. but that has no afm i guess.
just my 2p worth!

You won't see it mind unless you remove the top half of the airbox..
