I had to buy E12 female star today, just to remove them 12 bloody bolts!
Not sure about your point there geese?Widge wrote:Yeah but at home it's very easy to get heald up for a ling time if somthing is being stubborn, if you can't get the exhaust or prop off etc, or if someone has fcuked a nut or bolt before you.

LOL..............sausage in batter and chip's LOLDanThe wrote:4 3/4 hours
Did you have breakfast and lunch breaks? A quick snooze?
Fair point, i did have a sod of a job when i changed the rear subframeWidge wrote:MY point is you mat have been lucky that everything came apart easily, and if you had any problems you had the tools to sort it.
Even the easiest job can be difficult on a 15 year old car.

Got everything lose and off the car but the subframe would not budge for love nor money

I jumped on it and everything............let the jack down from the diff and the fucker litterally fell out

Also replacing the handbrake cable can be an arsehole....not the fitting of the handbrake but just the simple part of getting the old one's out

LOL..........it's all good fun

That's how long it took me the other day

Should have my LSD of Mark (Zaust) soon

Sorry to resurrect this, but how the hell do you undo the top mount bolts??
Everything else is loose, but I cant get enough leverage on the 2 top bolts to get them undone
What tools or combination of tools do I need to undo the little sh*ts?

Hi, guys, Iam going to be doing this job in a couple of weeks and it does surprise me that they make things so difficult. but sometimes the best engineered cars (German) do have some bad points.
Once upon a time......
.....I was under my old Mk1 Cortina removing the axle that hadn't been off for 22 years!!! My mate was stuggling on the other side trying to loosen his u bolts. Mine were not shifting for love' or @%*?
So I used a two foot piece of pipe on the end of the socket bar.
BANG!!!
The nut broke and the force with the extended pipe made a huge swinging action for when I wrapped it round my mates head on the other side of the axle.
He wasn't happy.......Opps!
Make sure you have room to swing the bat!!

I had an extension on the spanner, but didnt have room to move. It might of been a little too long I guess, so will try something a little shorter.stevetigger wrote:Or do what I did!

Its a right pain cause all the others came undone without much hassle and Ive got another diff to take off as well - Im hoping the second one will be easier

Thats why I said a foot!
My scaff bar jobber was about four inches longer than the 19mm spanner but it worked out good!
